Daily Star TV gives you all the latest interviews and spoilers and Ed Gleave will send you telly’s hot takes straight to your inbox every Sunday

Jon Kay is a regular presenter on BBC Breakfast and is known for his reporting on some pretty high profile cases from Madeleine McCann to the globally watched murder trial of Shrien Dewani.

The bearded broadcaster, who turns 52 on November 8, is a regular on the sofa with Naga Munchetty and has even been known to take a playful swipe at the outspoken host.

Jon is a dedicated family man and has three children with his fellow journalist wife.

So, from a heartfelt tribute for Louise Minchin to his shenanigans with Naga, 46, here’s the lowdown on his life and career.

Early life

Jon was born in Cheshire but spent a year in a Californian high school then went on to study Politics at Exeter University. Soon after graduating in 1992, he became a trainee reporter for the BBC before joining BBC Radio Bristol as a full-time journalist.

Interestingly, he started there at the same time as fellow presenter Susanna Reid.

He still has the southwest of the country as his patch but Jon regularly reports from around the UK and the rest of the world and of course, the BBC Breakfast national show.

Jon is married to Francesca Kasteliz, who he met in the Bristol newsroom. She is a former BBC News Correspondent too but is now a TV presenting coach. They got married in 1998 and have three children.

Playful banter with co-hosts

Recently Jon left Naga a bit red-faced when he put her on the spot to translate some Latin – after she told him she studied the language at school.

During a segment about medals being awarded to recipients of the George and Victoria cross to mark the Queen’s 70th Jubilee, Naga mentioned there was a Latin inscription.

Knowing that Naga has studied Latin at school, Jon said: “Let's see what you can remember.

“Dei Gratia Regina Fid Def,” Jon recited. But Naga did not have a clue.

“Thank you… I don’t know,” she said.

John laughed at his co-star’s failure, joking: “Two beers please!”

Ripping Daniel Craig's premiere outfit

Not one to shy away from a bit of confrontation Jon also made it clear a few days ago he wasn’t sure about Daniel Craig’s blazer choice at the London premiere of No Time to Die.

The steely-eye Bond actor, 54, wore a flamboyant pink velvet jacket at the Royal Albert Hall and when discussing the film on BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent, Jon cheekily said: "I know, I can't believe the jacket either, to be honest.

Sally added: "You don't like it, do you? Jon replied: "Well, it's brave… someone is saying on Twitter is framboise is the official colour."

Farewell to Louise Minchin

Jon can be a softy, as evidenced by the emotional tribute he gave to fellow presenter Louise Minchin when she left the BBC after 16 years.

He said it has been a “pleasure” to work with her and posted to his Twitter followers: “That was my last @BBCBreakfast shift with @louiseminchin before she leaves the sofa next week.

“It’s always been a pleasure to work with such a lovely and generous pro. “Thank you Lou – and enjoy the lie-ins!”

Below the waist casual

Even the BBC seemed to poke fun at Jon at a recent live interview “look”. He was reporting from Westminster on the return of MPs to parliament and his outfit was…interesting.

From above the waist he looked dapper and professional but below was a different story. Jon wore combat trousers and sturdy walking boots – after all, the weather didn’t look great. He was also stood in quite a macho pose.

The BBC posted: “Mid-interview with Jon Kay in #Westminster.”
