BGT magician Richard Jones fights back tears during sweet tribute to late friend

Britain's Got Talent magician Richard Jones left viewers in tears on Saturday night, as he paid tribute to his late friend and fellow soldier during his The Champions performance.

War veteran Fergus Anckorn, a long-serving member of the Magic Circle, sadly passed away in 2018 two years on from Richard winning the show.

During the finale that year, the contestant brought his friend out on stage as part of his act, and their friendship continued after.

As Richard returned to the series this weekend, he revealed Fergus had passed away, while paying tribute to him and saying how he taught him some very valuable life lessons.

Richard also explained that Fergus taught him incredible magic, that he decided to use within his act this time around as a tribute.

As he took to the stage and greeted the judges, he became overwhelmed and was visibly emotional.

Unable to speak straight away, he had the backing of the audience as his eyes filled with tears.

Despite his emotions, Richard managed to explain what he intended to do and how he hoped to involve his late friend in his trick.

He then performed a series of tricks, and as the act came to an end he once again got emotional.

The judges picked up on this as they gave their feedback, while Richard began to cry as the audience cheered him on.

Taking to Twitter , viewers were equally emotional with one fan saying: "I'm not crying, you're crying."

Another said: "First act in and I’m already crying like a baby."

A third tweeted: "Omg wow, couldn't see my keyboard without tears rolling down my face."
