Fans of Netflix’s hit period drama series took to Twitter to express their glee and excitement after the showrunner shared a huge update. They announced filming for Bridgerton’s highly-anticipated second season was officially wrapped.

Creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen shared the huge update on Twitter during the weekend with a photo of himself with stars Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey.

In the caption, he tweeted: “That’s a wrap on Season Two! So proud of this cast and crew who brought their A-games to work each and every day in this very challenging year.”

He added: “And these two in this photo with me right here. Words are not enough. Coming in 2022.”

In season one Jonathan portrayed Viscount Anthony Bridgerton while Ashley will join the cast in season two and is set to play his new romantic interest, Kate Sharma.

The announcement sent fans worldwide into a complete frenzy as they took to Twitter to share their excitement.

“KATHONY IS COMING!!” wrote Callmehigher.

Rosy_Sharpe warned: “I (DO NOT) apologize for the person that I‘ll become when S2 drops.”

“Season 2 premiere day is going to be a momentous occasion,” stated QamalaKhan.

Itcammieig couldn’t wait and tweeted: “Now can they edit it by Christmas for me please.”

After it first premiered on Netflix in December 2020, Bridgerton became an instant success and by January it smashed the platforms viewership records and became the biggest series.

As a result, it was quickly renewed for a second season and three months later the platform ordered a third and fourth instalment.

However, much like the entire TV industry, season two was hit with major delays due to Covid-19 and the pandemic.

The production faced indefinite shutdown in July 2020 after a crew member contracted the virus which later resumed in August

Bridgerton is the onscreen adaptation of Julia Quinn’s book series of the same name and season two will follow her second novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

It will follow the lives of the Bridgerton family’s eldest son Anthony and his romance with newcomer Kate Sharma.

Whereas season one followed eight of the siblings on their quest to find love, during the Regency era in England.

However, while everything appeared to be going well, the mysterious Lady Whistledown was releasing gossip novels and became the centre of Bridgerton.

Kathonysbee also shared their excitement: “Literally buzzing the past few days, CANNOT WAIT for the #Kathony magic in #Bridgerton season 2.”

AlisonMarie28 added: “I need a #Bridgerton season 2 premiere date so I know which day I have to take off to binge the entire thing in one sitting.”

While viewers know who Lady Whistledown is, the residents of Bridgerton have yet to find out it was in fact Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan).
