Changing Rooms is making a comeback and interior design star Lawrence Llewlyn-Bowen will be returning to the Channel 4 series much to the delight of fans. The new series began on Wednesday night and, while fans were delighted with the host’s return, many were confused about why he was wearing a leather outfit while painting.

Changing Rooms has been off-air since 2004 but a reboot on Channel 4 has already made viewers nostalgic for the series.

Fans are immensely happy to see Laurence back transforming people’s homes with his bold and colourful interior designs.

As neighbours prepare to swap houses and transform their dull houses, shocking reactions are expected.

However, in the first episode, viewers were distracted by Laurence’s startling leather outfit but many joked that it added to his “flamboyant” character.

Co-host Anna Richardson introduced Laurence as the “the titan of interiors” and it was clear that the host would be as extravagant as ever.

Upon his return, Laurence joked about his look, saying: “I’m re-engaging with my 80s persona in my 80s!”

It’s been 17 years since the series last aired and fans were loving the reboot, with one person commenting on Twitter: “They haven’t modernised Changing Rooms at all – it’s still as garish and gaudy as it used to be… and I love it!”

Sitting in leather trousers, a patterned leather waistcoat, and a Victorian-looking foulard, it seemed clear that fashion wasn’t going to stop Laurence from participating in some painting.

Though some viewers were confused by the look, while the majority loved the return of his leather trousers from the prior series.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “The divine Lolly L-B as flamboyant and leather-trousered as ever! #ChangingRooms.”

Another joked: “I don’t think Laurence Llewellyn Bowen is wearing enough leather #ChangingRooms.”

However, some fans wondered if he had dusted off his old trousers from the 90s.

A viewer remarked: “I wonder if Laurence Llewelyn Bowen is wearing the same leather trousers as in the 90s?”

However, one viewer wasn’t particularly enamoured with the trousers, saying: “Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen in leather trousers painting a house in 80s peach is everything British TV didn’t need. #ChangingRooms.”

Another fan was immensely happy to have Laurence back on-screens in leather, writing: “Yes #changingrooms bringing back my childhood crush in leather pants #channel4.”

In episode one of the reboot, the design team headed to Swansea to rescue two “living rooms sadly blighted by beige”.

Anna described the two rooms as a “shabby chic nightmare”.

The two transformations proved to be incredibly successful as both neighbours loved their newly designed rooms.

Another fan commented on the reboot, adding: “Oh this is JUST the creative, crazy, mad glamour I need right now!! Welcome Back #changingrooms it’s been too long.” (sic)

Laurence also promised audiences that more “dangerous designs” were in store but there is still no word about whether his leather trousers will make another appearance later in the series.

Changing Rooms airs every Wednesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
