LAURA Neelan is losing her battle with cancer and her daughter Kelly refuses to speak with her.

This leaves Gary Windass in a tricky position as he begs the wayward teen to make amends in Coronation Street.

After betraying her daughter, Laura (played by Kel Allen) returned to the cobbles with some sad news for Kelly (Millie Gibson).

The character has been suffering from terminal cancer and only has a short amount of time to live.

Although she first believed her mother was lying about her condition, Kelly slowly realised Laura was telling the truth and was taking care of her.

This was until Laura took the blame for Rick Neelan's murder, knowing she wouldn't have to face prison time due to her illness, after learning Gary (Mikey North) had killed the loan shark.

Laura made her choice to allow Kelly to have a family to rely on once she would be gone.

Since then, Kelly has shown no interest in being with her mother and Gary feels guilty.

Coming up, Gary realises Laura is at death's door when visiting her at the hospital and she tearfully admits she would give anything to be able to hug Kelly.

Meanwhile, Kelly is more focused on the hairdressing awards alongside Maria (Samia Longchambon) but Gary bursts her bubble when he tells her Laura only has hours to live as a call from the hospital warned him beforehand.

Kelly refuses to let her mother spoil her big day and hurries off with Maria behind her.

Gary tries again once Kelly wins Best Trainee Stylist and knocks back the wine.

He appeals to her again to go and visit Laura one last time before it's too late.

Laura was desperately trying to find Rick and hired a private investigator to try and find her former husband in an attempt to secure money for Kelly.

But when the PI told her all the evidence pointed to Rick being dead, she learned that Gary was also the prime suspect.

Eventually, Gary came clean, prompting Laura to do what she can so Kelly can have the family she deserves.
