Easy Rider’s Peter Fonda Passes Away At 79

One of the most iconic performers in Hollywood has passed away. Peter Fonda of Easy Rider fame has died at the age of 79 years old.

Having been featured in films that promoted a way of life and set of attitudes in the 60s,  and with over 116 credits to his film, television and producer profile, Fonda will always be remembered for the ground-breaking cult classic Easy Rider, which he produced, co-wrote and starred in.

Announced on Friday and mourned by many, Fonda passed away from respiratory failure due to lung cancer. He was in his Los Angeles home, his family said in a statement.

“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away,” the family said. ” The statement went on to add, “In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts.”

Fonda was as much remembered for his film work as he was being a part of a powerhouse family. Son of actor Henry Fonda and the brother of actress Jane Fonda, he is also survived by daughter Bridget Fonda who many fans will know from her work in Single White Female and Point of No Return.

Sister Jane Fonda said she spent time with her brother during his final days. “I am very sad. He was my sweet-hearted baby brother… He went out laughing,” she said.

What This Means

As we often say when an acting icon passes, this is a real loss for Hollywood. Fonda’s 1969 blockbuster “Easy Rider,” had just celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and wasn’t just a big film and Academy Award-Winning project for Fonda, but for Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper as well.

Peter Fonda’s last film appearance will be the posthumously-released war drama The Last Full Measure, which has completed filming and production and comes out on October 25.
