Hollyoaks’ evil Pete Buchanan actor becomes personal trainer after leaving soap

Ex-Hollyoaks star Kai Owen, who played abuser Pete Buchanan in the soap, used his lockdown wisely – and became a personal trainer.

The Welsh-born actor launched his new venture, Kai Owen Personal Training (KOPT), in August last year.

He specialises in senior fitness, corrective exercise and mental strength, and is currently offering virtual sessions due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Kai is a Level 3 qualified Premier Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

In a New Year Instagram post, Kai said: “You don’t need to be a member of a gym – you just need your beautiful bodies, your beautiful selves.”

The business’s motto is “healthy body, healthy mind”.

He also shared a brief clip of his original business launch, and said: “I’ve done something that I’ve always fancied doing and always wanted to do.

“I’ve used this lockdown period to train and study to become a Level 3 personal trainer.

“In a few weeks time when the gyms reopen and I’ve finally submitted my filming assessment and all that, I’ll be a fully qualified NASM personal trainer, and a corrective exercise specialist as well.

“I’m also gonna be doing a mental health course,” he said at the time. “The two go hand in hand in my opinion – it really is a healthy body, healthy mind.

“I know from a personal point of view how much a morning workout sets you up for the day.

“Sometimes it’s not easy, sometimes it’s very hard to do that,” he admitted.

Kai appeared in Hollyoaks in 2015 and 2016.

The Hollyoaks villain left the Channel 4 soap after a brief stint in 2018, after his character was jailed for the sexual abuse of his stepdaughter Cleo McQueen.

Pete also subjected her sisters Celine and Porsche to varying levels of abuse.

But it looks like Kai himself could be no further from his evil alter ego.

The actor is also known for his portrayal of Rhys Williams in Torchwood, and has also appeared in shows like Waterloo Road, Doctors and The Syndicate.

It's unclear whether Kai plans to return to acting after lockdown, but according to his iMDB page, he doesn’t have any current projects in the works.
