Home and Away Theo star’s life – unlucky in love, real age and The Voice fame

Things are starting to get exciting for Home and Away’s Theo Poulos, as spoilers have confirmed that he’s set to make it as the leading vocalist for new band Lyrik.

Amid an abuse twist from his dad, Theo has been working as an apprentice at the garage with Ziggy, and quickly cemented himself as a fan-favourite character in the Aussie soap.

But what about actor Matt Evans, the man behind the boy?

From his real age to his love life away from the cameras, Daily Star takes a look into the star’s real life when he isn’t playing a role.

The Voice stardom

Though Home and Away might be Matt’s first real acting job, he’s no stranger to the world of TV.

The star initially rose to fame on The Voice Australia as part of Team Delta before teaming up as a duo with Janie Gordon, dubbed Goldi, after battling it out against each other.

Goldi made it through to the Showdowns in 2020 before being eliminated in episode 19, mentored under Delta Goodrem.

And it seems Matt’s music career definitely had an impact on his Home and Away storyline, as he admitted to Stuff that he had “conversations” with bosses on where to take the storyline.

He said: “I had a couple of meetings upstairs where I said that I'd love to be able to [sing] and they were very accepting of that.

“I knew that there was going to be some music that I was going to be able to bring to the character, but nothing else. And the funny thing is that they kind of kept it from me.

"There were whispers about this band coming in but I didn't know anything about it. I was one of the last people to find out – but it's been amazing,” he confessed.

Before landing the Home and Away role, Matt completed a Bachelor in Contemporary Music at WAAPA, singing with rock band Atlas Chasers before making his way onto The Voice stage.

Real age and secret job

Though Theo, born in 2001, is only 21 years old in Summer Bay, actor Matt is a few years older.

Matt is actually 25, having auditioned at 23 for The Voice.

Raised in Western Australia, he initially worked as a forklift driver while playing in pubs with Atlas Chasers – although even as an actor he keeps a secret second job.

The star also makes videos on Cameo in his spare time, with prices for a single clip starting at £34.

He has a five-star rating on the site, and provides a variety of personalised videos or the opportunity to direct message him for just £9.

Matt’s bio on the site promises that he can also “sing you a song” if that’s what you’re after.

Unlucky in love

There has been plenty of raised eyebrows over Matt’s love life away from the soap, with plenty of fans clamouring to know if he has a partner in real life.

However, he has confirmed that while he does “write a lot of love songs”, he hasn’t found that perfect person just yet.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, he admitted: “It’s funny because I haven't had many girlfriends and I don't really fall in love very easy.

“There is nobody on the horizon at the moment.”

Matt has confirmed that when he eventually leaves Home and Away, he wants to try his luck in Hollywood and see if he can land some big US roles.

But the thought of leaving Summer Bay makes him “anxious”.

Speaking to TV WEEK, he explained: “Obviously I have plans when it comes to moving to the US and giving the States a go and seeing what I can do over there.

"I have a great agent and everything set up there, so that was always [the plan], otherwise I feel like I would be wondering 'what if?'

“I still feel so comfortable and at home on Home and Away. There's already that anxiety building in me of leaving the place and having to go and fend for myself and [I'm thinking]: 'What if I never work again?’” he added.

But it looks like fans won’t have to say goodbye to Theo any time soon, as Matt confirmed that he’s happy “for the next few years” in Australia.
