How to apply for a grant in The Lottery’s £2m birthday celebration

The National Lottery is celebrating its 25th birthday in style with a £2million fund for local communities across the UK.

Anyone can apply for funding worth up to £1,000 in a special celebration that will champion community projects in 2020.

Awarded grants could pay for a whole host of neighbourhood projects, from a community barbecue to a litter clean-up or a coffee morning to bring together isolated and lonely residents.

Other successful projects that have been delivered using small grants from The National Lottery include equipping a park, organising cookery classes taught by refugees and buying equipment to support a local clean up campaign.

Alternatively, you might just want to say ‘thank you’ to your local unsung heroes by hosting a picnic.

Each week National Lottery players help raise around £30m for good causes across the country.

Since the first draw took place on November 19, 1994, The National Lottery has awarded more than 565,000 grants to good causes nationwide, sharing an astonishing £40bn of funding across the arts, sports, heritage and local communities.

It adds up to an average of 200 projects in every UK postcode area.

The funding has helped communities across the UK to thrive by nurturing local youth groups, helping the elderly overcome loneliness, protecting historic buildings, training world-famous Paralympians and Olympians to be medal winners and funding the UK film industry.

But without you, this wouldn’t have been possible. By playing The National Lottery, you are making amazing things happen.

While we all hope our winning numbers will one day come up, its impact goes far beyond just making millionaires.

After all, The National Lottery has always believed that small actions can make a big difference, and that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

You can apply to fund an event, an activity or a project on your doorstep that you are passionate about which brings people together.

It doesn’t need to be big in scale, it’s about bringing little ideas to life.

If you have the seed of a brilliant idea that will benefit your local community and want to support a cause that’s meaningful to you, this is your chance to make it happen and deliver change in the place you live.

So, what are you waiting for? Why not help The National Lottery mark its milestone birthday by making a real difference where you live.
