James Bond’s final film starring Daniel Craig, No Time To Die, will be released on October 8, 2021. After the credits have rolled, the hunt will be on for MGM to decide who will be the next MI6 spy. Considering the character has been portrayed by a man since 1962 in his first film, Dr No, some actors and fans alike have said it is time for a woman to take on the role.

Chopra recently spoke up about the idea of Bond finally turning from James to Jane.

The actor said: “I mean it’s not up to me to make it a thing. It’s up to people to be ready to watch a female Bond.

“We can keep talking about it, but someone’s got to make it.”

She added: “And if it ever gets made, I would obviously love to throw my name in the mix, as I have, as I will.”

Chopra has previously taken on some action roles in the likes of 2017’s Baywatch, and 2020’s We Can Be Heroes.

Later this year she will appear in the fourth Matrix film where she will face off against Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss.

The idea of a female 007 has proved controversial, with executive producer Barbara Broccoli saying “Bond is male” – but the possibility isn’t completely out of the question.

Earlier this week bookies slashed the odds on the character’s next iteration being taken on by a woman.

Ladbrokes give 10/1 odds on the role being filled by an actress later this year after it previously held 12/1.

The bookmaker’s Alex Apati commented: “It looks like the name could soon be Bond; Jane Bond as 007 chiefs prepare for life after Daniel Craig.”

According to Coral the actress with the best chance of becoming the next Bond is Lashana Lynch, however.

She plays the new 007 in No Time To Die while Craig’s Bond is retired.

The odds on her returning in another film as the main 007 character currently sit at 5/1.

However, other male actors are leagues ahead of her in the betting including Idris Elba with 7/2 and James Norton with 5/2.

At the top of the leaderboard is British actor Tom Hardy who has an incredible 4/5 odds on claiming the next Bond role.

Hardy’s popularity spiked last year when it was reported he had already been cast as the international spy.

The Dunkirk star previously refused to comment on rumours that he had been cast as the character.

Hardy told The Daily Beast: “If I mention it, it’s gone.

“You know, there’s a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, and in the fellowship of my peer group, that if you talk about it you’re automatically out of the race. So I can’t possibly comment on that one.”

James Bond No Time To Die will be released in cinemas on October 8, 2021.
