Adam Peaty and Katya Jones have been steadily improving as the weeks have gone on during this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, edging further and further up the leaderboard. And the duo will be hoping to impress once again on Saturday for Halloween Week, with the Olympian and his pro partner tackling the Viennese Waltz to Moonlight Sonata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. But when the pair joined Janette Manrara on BBC spin-off It Takes Two, she had a different topic on her mind.

Katya and Adam managed to escape the dreaded dance-off last week, despite receiving a rather lukewarm response from the judges.

The pair scored 29 for their routine on Saturday but thanks to the high quality of their fellow competitors, they only managed to take the seventh spot out of 10 on the leaderboard.

Nevertheless, the pair admitted they were relieved to be through to Halloween Week, with Janette and Katya both telling Adam he had to have more “faith” in his abilities.

Delving into the details of their training for the upcoming routine, Janette was keen to probe Katya and Adam on the bizarre way her husband Aljaz Skorjanec has been helping their rehearsals.

“I’ve got to ask because he’s my husband,” Janette said on Thursday’s It Takes Two. “You talk about Aljaz a lot.”

Katya let out a giggle as Janette continued her grilling: “I heard it in the mics,

“You talked about him upstairs in Claudia (Winkleman’s) room.

“Why Aljaz? What is it about Aljaz?” Janette quizzed, prompting Adam to quickly jump to explain.

Adam explained: “We used Aljaz’s face on everything we do now because -“

The Strictly star was then cut off by Katya laughing as a snap of Aljaz appeared on-screen, prompting Adam to mimic his happy expression and say: “Look at him!”

Adam went on: “It’s not just the face, it’s the energy, it’s just – look at it!”

Janette then teased Adam and Katya to show her the posture they’d learnt from Aljaz as the swimmer got into position.

The trio shared a laugh before moving on with the rest of the competition.

And while Aljaz has been a pro on the show for a number of years, Week Five saw him and Sara Davies struggle to impress.

After topping the leaderboard in Week Four, the pair’s high spirits were dashed by Shirley Ballas and co last Saturday.

In fact, Craig Revel-Harwood only gave the duo a score of four in Week Five, meaning they took the second to last spot with a score of 25.

Ugo Monye and Oti Mabuse occupied the bottom spot with their score of 20 but it didn’t soften the blow for Aljaz and the Dragon’s Den star.

Luckily, both Adam and Sara avoided the dance-off as it was left to Ugo and Rhys Stephenson – who’d placed sixth on the leaderboard – to battle it out.

The judges voted unanimously to save Rhys and his pro partner Nancy Xu to stay in the contest.

It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6:30pm on BBC Two.
