Joanna Lumley set to join RuPauls Drag Race as judge after years of trying

There will be an Absolutely Fabulous guest judge on the next series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK… Dame Joanna Lumley.

The acting legend joins the panel for a special episode.

An insider said: “Execs have been trying to get Joanna on the show for years. The pandemic caused a delay, but finally it has worked out.

“Everyone is so excited that they managed to make it happen. Joanna is easily one of the best signings in the show’s history.

“She’s a bona fide legend and national treasure.” Joanna was asked to appear because of her spectacular CV.

Since finding fame in the late 60s she has ticked off movies, soaps, sitcoms, documentaries, modelling, theatre and books.

My insider went on: “Joanna has done it all. If anyone can dish out handy advice to contestants, it’s got to be her. She knows how to make it in the industry and stay at the top of your game for decades.”

Joanna has already filmed her appearance on the panel. It was all done earlier this year in secret.

And I’m told the contestants were all starstruck.

Other guest judges you will see popping up in the new series include Spice Girl Mel B and TV’s Alison Hammond, Tess Daly and AJ Odudu.

And, of course, RuPaul and Michelle Visage will both be back for more.

The news of Joanna's stint comes months after the successful series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs The World, which saw another group of celebrity judges join.

Earlier this year, the likes of Clara Amfo, Daisy May Cooper, Jonathan Bailey, Jade Thirlwall, Melanie C and Michelle Keegan all joined the panel.

While Johannes Radebe and Katie Price joined for special game segments – and it looks like the execs are keeping with the Spice Girls vibe for the upcoming series as Mel B will be joining.

Fans eagerly await another series of Drag Race, but from the latest signing, it's clearly going to be a big hit.
