Lorraine Kelly has taken a savage swipe at former Health Secretary Matt Hancock after she discovered that he may be exempt from some I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! challenges.

Hancock has trench foot after an incident on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which could mean that he will not take part in any trials to do with water.

Lorraine said that it was "daft" that he couldn't take part in some of the trials.

Upon hearing the news on her ITV show from reporter Rishi Davda, Lorraine had an exasperated expression and a sarcastic tone to her voice.

She then quipped: "Well, there's no point him being there, really, let's be honest, if he's not going to do them. How bizarre? I didn't know he did that SAS thing, so this isn't the first reality show that he has done? How extraordinary."

Numbers have suggested that Matt could be the contestant who has participated in the most Bucshtucker trials ever by the end of the series – but this may not be the case due to the health condition.

The politician will be entering the jungle alongside showbiz heavyweights such as Olivia Attwood, Scarlette Douglas and Chris Moyles, which has led to backlash from the general public.

Fans followed Lorraine's anger and took to Twitter to fume over Matt's appearance on the show.

One viewer claimed that his "jaunt" on the ITV show "is nothing more than shameless self promotion" and "his wrongdoings won't be forgotten".

Another made the point that he is "seeking exposure" and the "whole show should be boycotted" as it is a "disgrace that he is being allowed on" and being "paid almost half a million for it".

Earlier in the show, Rishi joined Lorraine from the Gold Coast and confirmed that they are all isolating "dotted around" the area.

Davda also explained that Matt has been "making headlines" for claiming that he will be able to "chat to constituents" from inside the jungle.

However, Rishi said that reportedly, "bosses have said that is simply not true" as "much like all the other contestants," Matt will "have to abide by the rules" – which means no contact with anyone outside of the show unless "a real emergency" occurs.
