Love Islands Gemma hopes dad Michael Owen will make epic ITV villa cameo

Gemma Owen has revealed her famous ex-footballer dad Michael Owen could enter the Love Island villa.

Michael's teen daughter Gemma has been confirmed as a castmate on the eighth series of the hit ITV2 dating show, which returns Monday June 6 at 9pm.

Her dad shot to fame as a striker for the England national squad, who also played for Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Stoke City during his impressive career.

Gemma has clearly inherited her dad's sporty genes as the 19-year-old competes as a dressage rider at a high level – and describes herself as "very competitive."

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star and other press before the show, Gemma both her mum and dad could make an appearance in the villa.

Love Island fans will be well aware of the famous parents episodes which see the remaining Islanders surprised by their nearest and dearest after weeks of being apart from them.

The heartwarming episodes often see the castmates overcome with emotion as they reunite with their relatives or friends.

When asked whether footy legend Michael could set foot in the sunny Mallorca villa, Gemma replied: "Hopefully, that’ll be nice. Hopefully I get that far, and hopefully my mum and dad will come. That’ll be [nice] to see them in the villa."

Gemma also revealed her father would "definitely be watching" the series, and that he's "very supportive" of her going on the show.

The brunette beauty said: "I think he definitely will be watching. He’s never watched the show before. He’s obviously seen a few clips but he’s not a Love Island fan, so yeah I think he will be watching. He will be supporting.

"He is very supportive and he trusts me to not do anything to embarrass him or any of the family, so yeah he’s been really supportive which is nice."

The Liverpool lady also insisted her parents didn't gave her any strict rules when it came to being intimate on TV – as they trust her.

The business owner even said she had a sweet chat with her dad before jetting off to Mallorca for the series.

She said: "Yeah, they’ve not really given me any rules which is really nice. I think they do trust me. I’ve never given them a reason not to.

"My dad actually said to me ‘I’m not going to tell you what you can and can’t do. It’s up to you. You can make your own decisions.’ But I’m very close to my family so I wouldn’t do anything that would purposefully disrespect them or embarrass them."

Gemma added: "They’ve not said you can and can’t do this but I’m very aware of what they would potentially feel uncomfortable with so I’m going to keep that in mind."

The teen said she has a competitive streak just like her dad as the trait is 'in their blood'.

She's not afraid to go after a guy she likes if they're already coupled up with someone, but she'd never pursue someone in an official relationship.

Gemma said: "Yeah. I’m definitely competitive. I think all of us as a family are. It’s in our blood. I think if someone is in a proper relationship, I’d never go for it. I’d never get in the way of that, because I just wouldn’t. I’ve got morals and respect.

"I think if someone’s coupled up and I really like them, I’ll make my feelings known, but I’ll do it in a very respectful way. I wouldn’t want to purposefully be nasty to another girl.

“I’d like to keep everyone in the loop of what’s going on.

Dishing on what kind of guys she's looking for in the villa, Gemma said her "type on paper" is somebody "tall", "sporty" and "muscly" with dark features – but she also wants good morals.

Gemma said: "My type on paper would probably be someone that’s tall, muscly, sporty, dark features I tend to go for, but someone that’s really driven, ambitious. Someone that just knows what they want but not cocky.

"Someone that can make me laugh. Someone that’s just a nice genuine person who’s family orientated, who’s got good morals, and is not wanting to like play games or mess me about."

Gemma also described herself as "fiery" and confessed she's not afraid to say what she thinks – even if it's "brutal".

She said: "Yeah I would say I am quite fiery. I would say if someone does something I don’t like or if I don’t agree with something then I’m not afraid to make that known. I’ll say my opinion if sometimes that might come across a bit brutal."

Love Island starts at 9pm Monday 6th June on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
