‘Lucifans’ are still waiting on an announcement regarding the release date for the much hyped fifth season of Lucifer.

Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) made a devastating decision at the end of season four when he abandoned Chloe Decker (Lauren German) and returned to his throne in Hell.

The original Fox show was saved by Netflix after season three for two additional instalments on Netflix, and a recent contract deal between Ellis and Warner Bros. Television means season six could be back on the cards.

With the wildly successful fantasy procedural’s future all but secure on Netflix, fans are looking forward to plenty of new crime capers and romantic pairings.

Moreover, the introduction of Dennis Haysbert as new series regular God, Lucifer’s estranged father, sets up some major questions for season five.

While God has been a major presence throughout Lucifer seasons one to four, he has never made a physical appearance on the show.

Netflix streamers are now prepared for God’s long-awaited introduction to change the course of the series forever.

Some fans have taken to Reddit to discuss how the new member of the main cast will be introduced for the series, with one viewer suggesting he might be tired of his role as the ruler of all Creation.

Redditor Nymaz suggested: “God is tired. He doesn’t want to be Himself anymore and so is making plans to retire. So who does he get to replace him?

“He originally wanted Lucifer but realised that he wasn’t up to the task (though was the closest of all the celestials).”

This theory lines up well with the current trajectory of the show, as Lucifer has felt constantly abandoned by God, who refuses to answer his prayers for guidance.

Meanwhile, Lucifer’s brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) is convinced his father is testing him, though fans are unsure whether his perceived quests are actually sent from the Big Man himself.

If God is truly tired of his dominion over Earth and the Heavens, he could be spending much of season five looking for his replacement.

The fan continued: “What if instead of a celestial, He chooses a human – someone who understands the human condition intimately and someone who understands justice, which is a primary required characteristic for God.”

Lucifer has briefly touched on the corruption alleged against the real life Los Angeles Police Department, but Detective Chloe Decker shines through as a rare beacon of morality for the series.

When season five concludes, the finale could mirror the dark cliffhanger of season four by having Chloe ascend to the throne in the Silver City.

Finally, they added: “But it would be overwhelming for a human on their own. Besides He wasn’t alone in the beginning, He had Mrs. God.

“And who better for that role of helpmate than a celestial who was the closest and original pick for replacement?”

If this theory is correct, Lucifer could finally abandon his devilish ways in the coming episodes by helping his true love Chloe fulfill a heavenly destiny.
