Max George details physical pain of grief over best friend Tom Parkers death

Max George has detailed the physical pain he’s been feeling as a result of him dealing with the loss of his best friend Tom Parker.

Tom, who was one fifth of the band The Wanted, tragically passed away aged 33 in March after being diagnosed with a brain tumour 18 months earlier.

He’s survived by his wife Kelsey, 32, and their two young kids Aurelia, two, and Bodhi, one.

Max has been extremely candid about his mental health over the years and, when asked how he is, the 33 year old opened up on his grief over losing Tom.

When asked by GMB’s Charlotte Hawkins on how losing Tom has affected his mental health and how he’s doing at the moment as a result, Max explained: “Mentally I’m alright, everything’s fine. It’s more just the physical thing right now and the physical pain of not having [Tom] here. It hurts.”

“That’s the only way I can describe it,” Max went on. “There’s nothing else to it other than I miss him.”

Richard Madeley then weighed in and said that the singer’s comments “speak for everybody”.

“Grief actually is almost the physical pain,” he said. “It won’t go, and it’s there, and it throbs.”

The singer’s comments come after he revealed on This Morning yesterday, Tuesday 31 May, that he sometimes still texts Tom’s phone.

Presenter Alison Hammond asked Max: “And how’s life without him now? Do you talk to him still?”

Max replied: “I’m still trying to process it, I still text him actually.

"If I get pictures or stuff that fans have made with him in it or they send a nice message to do with Tom, I’ll WhatsApp it to him.

"I just find a bit of comfort in that. The worst bit is when I’m not doing it and I do it accidentally. Sometimes I go to do it and I’m like, ‘Oh no’.”

He also spoke about Tom’s bond with his wife Kelsey, and branded the pair as being “peas in a pod”.

Giving an update on his friend’s widow, Max went on: “Kelsey’s been awesome. She’s always been really strong, like Tom. They were literally two peas in a pod."

"She’s raising awareness for glioblastoma and cancer in general, she’s been great. We talk quite often, just check in, make sure she’s alright," he added.
