Season five of Money Heist is currently in production and Netflix subscribers are optimistic the Spanish thriller will be returning at some point next year. After the devastating cliffhanger at the end of season four, some perceptive viewers have predicted yet another major twist will come into play.

Fan theories have been running rampant ever since the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) went head-to-head with his latest rival.

At the beginning of season three, the criminal mastermind and his team’s next plan is threatened by the heavily pregnant and sadistic police inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

Throughout the hit on the Bank of Spain, Alicia sabotaged the robbery by kidnapping and torturing Rio (Miguel Herran) and using coercion to severely injure Nairobi (Alba Flores).

Alicia may have been dismissed by the Spanish police by the end of season four, but that hasn’t stopped her from causing the Professor grief.

In the latest instalment’s final moments, Alicia infiltrated the Professor’s hideout and held him hostage at gunpoint.

With the fate of the criminal genius and his band of criminals hanging in the balance, fans are waiting on the edge of their seats to find out if the former inspector will pull the trigger.

Meanwhile, some viewers are letting their imaginations run wild and have formed some intriguing theories regarding Alicia’s true identity.

A significant portion of fans are already convinced Alicia bears a striking resemblance to Tatiana (Diana Gómez), a minor character revealed in flashbacks.

Tatiana was confirmed to be the ex-wife of Berlin (Pedro Alonso), who sacrificed himself at the end of season two to guarantee the team’s safety.

However, as Tatiana is just one of Berlin’s five ex-wives, there has been some speculation that Alicia could be exposed as another former partner of the Professor’s brother.

One observant Money Heist viewer took to Reddit to propose the mind-boggling theory.

Redditor SamLFC89 asked fellow fans: “Anyone ever thought Sierra might be one of Belin’s five ex-wives?”

As Berlin was shot to death by Spanish police at the end of season two he hasn’t had the chance to meet Alicia, leaving their potential history together a mystery.

With Pedro Alonso returning to the role once more in season five, as he did in flashbacks during season four, there’s still a chance for the series to reveal their hidden past together.

However, other fans remained unconvinced as the Professor failed to recognise Alicia when they came face-to-face for the first time.

One viewer replied: “If Sierra was one of Berlin’s five ex-wives the Professor would have known and recognized her.”

Although, the original poster argued: “Maybe he had noticed her but it hasn’t been said, maybe she changed her look?

“Maybe he didn’t know because it seems in the flashback in season three when Berlin talks about his illness, that he may have not seen him for some time.”

With a surprising majority of fans still convinced Alicia and Sierra either have a connection or could even be the same person, Money Heist might be able to get away with another leap in logic connecting the inspector with Berlin.

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix.
