Netflix's The Haunting Of Bly Manor Gets Scary And Sad First Trailer

The full trailer for The Haunting of Bly Manor is here. The Netflix show is the follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Haunting of Hill House, and sees many of that show’s cast return for a different spooky story, this time based on Henry James’s classic horror novel The Turn of the Screw.

The trailer sets up the basic story, in which a man named Henry Wingrave hires a nanny to look after his orphaned niece and nephew on a large, spooky estate of the title. The trailer certainly suggests the same melancholy, spooky vibe of its predecessor, and while the choice of Motley Crüe’s Home Sweet Home as the music in the trailer might seem like an odd choice, this spooky instrumental version really works. Check it out below.

The show stars Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and T’Nia Miller. It’s written and directed by Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Gerard’s Game) once more, and hits Netflix on October 9.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Flanagan spoke about the similarities between Hill House an Bly Manor, as well as what sets them apart form one another. “At its foundation, the Haunting series is very much about haunted spaces and haunted people,” he said. “The way we make those things dance together is really going to be what’s uniform about Hill House and Bly. Outside of that though, it was really important for all of us not to play the same notes we played for the first season. The first season is very much entrenched in family dynamics and death and grief and loss and child trauma. We all collectively felt like we’d said everything we wanted to say about that.”
