NTAs 2021: Model Leomie Anderson calls out UK TV industry after Ant and Dec win

Leomie Anderson has called out UK TV bosses over Ant and Dec’s National Television Awards win.

The duo, who front Britain’s Got Talent and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, as well as their own Saturday Night Takeaway series, were declared winners of the TV presenter award on Thursday.

They beat out competition from Piers Morgan, Alison Hammond, Holly Willoughby and Bradley Walsh for the trophy, marking their 20th win in the category.

However, model and fashion designer Leomie, who has stomped the catwalks for Victoria’s Secret, Tom Ford, Burberry and Calvin Klein, had her say on their dominance at the ceremony, which now spans two decades.

Quoting a tweet from Pretty Little Thing celebrating the win, she said she would rather head to the US for similar opportunities, as she would not be given the same chances in the UK based on her skin colour.

‘No offence to them but this is exactly why I’d rather take my chances in America than stick around the UK in the hopes they’ll give a girl who looks like me a chance to have my own TV show/ present,’ she penned.

‘They will never retire these types of characters.’

Fans mainly agreed with her sentiment, and suggested that the TV industry will ‘plummet drastically’ if others are not given a chance to succeed.

‘I don’t even know why they get this award anymore?! It’s a popularity contest,’ a follower replied.

‘Thank you very, very much indeed. We were talking in the car on the way here and the first year we won an award, Tony Blair was the Prime Minister and Newcastle qualified for the Champion’s League,’ Ant told the crowd, as well as viewers at home.

‘This one means the most. 20 years. I’m shaking!’

‘It’s pretty overwhelming to be honest with you,’ Dec agreed. ‘When you get to 20, you can’t help but stop and look at the first time you got one in 2001 and so much has changed in both of our lives since then.

’But one thing that hasn’t changed is how unbelievably grateful we are that you take the time, year after year, to vote for us and put us up here.’

His best pal added: ‘We’ve got the best jobs on telly, we really have. Please keep watching the shows because we love making them.’
