Peaky Blinders cast return to Birmingham for season 5 premiere

The Peaky Blinders cast headed home for the hotly-anticipated season five premiere at Birmingham Town Hall tonight.

Helen McCory and Sophie Rundle, who play Polly Gray and Ada Shelby lead the glamourous affair on the red carpet, with fellow stars Harry Kirton, Packy Lee, Finn Cole, Natasha O’Keeffe, Daryl McCormack and Charlene McKenna joining them.

Gentleman Jack star Sophie, 31, oozed chic as she rocked a black trouser suit, while Helen, 50, sported an elegant black dress featuring ruffles for days.

Missing from the event though was the main man himself, Cillian Murphy.

The 43-year-old Thomas Shelby actor, who is heading to Westminster as a member of parliament in the upcoming new season, was a no show as well newcomer Sam Clafin.

Sam is set to be joining Peaky Blinders as party leader Oswald Mosley and no one is more excited to see the new installment than Sam himself, who admits he’s just as obsessed with the show as we are.

‘It was magical and that’s the only way to describe it, it’s magic,’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘Cillian is the most down to earth man with his Irish accent then the second he turns into Tommy Shelby you get like, “oh my God hello”, and then Paul Anderson comes in as Arthur… it really is magical.’

‘They bring that time and era and style to life so feeling like a small part of that is very exciting,’ he added. ‘I am very excited for the new series.’

Season four of the beloved crime drama concluded in December 2017 so fans have been waiting quite a while for Peaky Blinders to return.

While an exact return date has yet to be announced, it’s likely that we’ll be gifted the new offering in August or September.

Peaky Blinders returns soon on BBC One.
