Peter Andre's wife Emily reveals secret bond with Ashley Cain's partner Safiyya saying 'I always admired her strength'

PETER Andre's wife Emily has revealed how she forged a secret bond with footballer Ashley Cain's partner Safiyya backstage at the Pride of Britain Awards.

The NHS doctor attended the star-studded awards ceremony alongside the Mysterious Girl singer and his two teenage children.

Emily, 32, posed on the red carpet alongside hubby Peter, 48, Junior, 16, and Princess, 14, while younger children Amelia and Theodore stayed home.

The star took to her column in OK! magazine to tell all about her experience at the "emotional yet uplifting" evening celebrating incredible achievements.

The mother-of-two detailed how she met Safiyya, who is the mother of footballer Ashley's late daughter Azaylia, backstage at the red carpet event.

"It was also lovely to meet Azaylia Cain's mum Safiyya Vorajee," she wrote. "It's so nice to be able to tell her in person how I have followed her journey.

"I've always admired her strength in sharing Azaylia's story. Hopefully we'll keep in touch as she's doing some work with her foundation for Azaylia and I'd love toget involved."

Earlier this year, grieving mum Safiyya opened up about how she felt she was "at breaking point" after struggling with her daughter's loss.

She wrote to social media: "Today is another extreme day for me, I honestly feel at breaking point. I don't even know what is happening in this world we live in."

Safiyya then shared an image that read: "Grieving can make you lie. How easy it is to say 'I am fine' when you are actually just broken".

The mother-of-one and 30-year-old Ashley have been open about their grief battle since losing their little girl in April, at eight months old.

At the beginning of April, heartbroken Ashley and Safiyya revealed that doctors had told them they could no longer treat Azaylia's leukaemia, which she was diagnosed with at just eight weeks old.

The family had just raised over £1million for her to get specialist treatment in Singapore when they were delivered the heartbreaking news, with medics finding tumours throughout her body – including on her brain.

Azaylia Diamond Cain died in April aged just eight months after fighting acute myeloid leukaemia for most of her life.

Ex on the Beach star Ashley revealed the news on social media, saying: "Rest In Paradise Princess.

"I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven."

Azaylia's mum Safiyya Vorajee added: "You are my angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart."

The couple have since said that every day is a battle to carry on,  but they have vowed to keep fighting in her name to help other children and their families who are going through the same ordeal.

To honour her memory, they launched The Azaylia Foundation, which, among its many aims, will alert other parents to the symptoms of the disease.

Earlier this month, footballer Ashley was hit with more heartbreak as he revealed his grandmother had passed away seven months after Azaylia.
