Shirley Ballas says there might be a few surprises during Strictly grand final

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has teased that the grand final could have "a few surprises".

The 62-year-old head judge will be back on television screens this weekend as one couple will be crowned winners of the BBC dance competition.

Molly Rainford, Helen Skleton, Hamza Yassin and Fleur East will battle it out to lift the glitterball trophy on Saturday (December 17) evening.

While viewers will have to wait and see who will be crowned champion, Shirley has revealed that she has no idea who's going to be victorious.

Speaking to Daily Star at the TV Choice Awards last month, Shirley said: "I wouldn't like to predict this one.

"We've had everybody at the top, at the middle and at the bottom.

"There might be a few surprises I think."

It comes after Shirley opened up on some Strictly backstage secrets – including sneaking into contestants' dressing rooms.

She said: "My day starts by washing my hair and letting it dry naturally. It’s a kind of a bit of a good look thing for me.

"I check to see what Motsi’s [Mabuse] wearing and start picking dresses.

"I’ve also started sneaking into their contestants' dressing rooms to see if they are keeping it tidy."

Strictly bosses have been accused of being out of step by fans over "unfair" dances that could decide the winners because they have "fewer rules" than traditional ballroom routines.

Many viewers have hit out as three out of the four finalists have picked to perform a Couple's Choice routine in a bid with win the show.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Disappointed to only see one ballroom dance in the final although it reflects the series, and for me personally, why I feel it has lost its sparkle and no longer unmissable viewing."

Another commented: "I think the producers need to address the issue of Couple’s Choice. It always felt unfair even in its original incarnation, but with all rules dropped now, it’s become another show dance.

"This means three of the four finalists are effectively performing two show dances in the final!"

A third quipped: "Don't think the Couple's Choice dances should be allowed to be picked. That seems unfair as they always do well with having fewer rules."
