Strictly Come Dancing 2019: BBC Breakfast presenter set to star in line-up?
Newsreaders and presenters are always favourites for the Strictly Come Dancing line-up.
Now, another BBC Breakfast star could be putting their best foot forward when the BBC show returns.
Sports correspondent Mike Bushell could be the next presenter about to be thrown into the mix, according to The Sun.
The lovable presenter is renowned for his gaffes and blunders while reporting live, and it is said bosses want him to bring “laughs” to the dance competition.
“Producers are keen to tap into the laughs that Mike can bring to the show, and the fact that he’s now one of the most familiar faces on BBC Breakfast,” a source told the publication.
“They’re also conscious of the fact he could be the dark horse of the competition. Not only have his predecessors triumphed on Strictly, but he keeps himself physically fit.”
Last year he found himself at the centre of a hilarious live news moment as he accidentally fell over in a swimming pool while interviewing England’s Commonwealth Games swimmers.
On top of that, he also once spilt water on himself as well as split his trousers in the same interview.
But he wouldn’t be the first BBC Breakfast star to take to the dance floor as Naga Munchetty and Carol Kirkwood have already competed.
Carol made it to week number seven with partner Pasha Kovalev before being booted off in 2015, while Naga Munchetty – who was also partnered with Pasha – made it to week four in 2016.
Meanwhile, Motsi Mabuse has been named as Dame Darcey Bussell’s replacement on the judging panel.
The ballerina announced back in April that she wouldn’t be returning to the programme after acting as a judge for the past seven years.
Motsi, sister to Strictly professional Oti Mabuse, is already a judge on the German version of the show, Let’s Dance.
On her new appointment, Motsi said: “I am absolutely overjoyed to be joining the Strictly judging panel.
“I have so much respect and admiration for the other three judges and hope to add my own bit of sparkle to the show. I can’t wait to get started!”
Meanwhile, Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content said: “Motsi is a brilliant addition to the show.
“She is a wonderful dancer in her own right and already has years of experience as a judge under her belt.
“We’re all looking forward to welcoming her to the Strictly family.”
“I am incredibly excited that Motsi Mabuse is joining the show,” added Sarah James, executive producer of Strictly. “Motsi’s natural warmth, energy and passion for dance makes her the perfect addition to our esteemed judging panel.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One later this autumn.
