The One Show’s Alex Jones announces surprise career move in BBC switch-up

The One Show's Alex Jones has revealed she has an exciting new career prospect on the horizon, moving from TV to radio.

Starting next month, the 43-year-old presenter will be hosting her own show on BBC Radio Wales.

Born in the idyllic town of Ammanford, Wales, the mum-of-one will be making a return to her roots to produce the new series.

Breaking the news to her fans, she declared: "I'm so excited to get my headphones back on for BBC Radio Wales and to play some of my favourite songs.

"There is something so special about radio.

"The connection you can have with the listeners and there's something extra special about talking to people in Wales."

Alex isn't the only Welsh broadcaster that has proven a hit with listeners – Countdown's Carol Vorderman is a hugely successful voice on local radio.

With her show starting in a matter of days, Alex already has an all-star list of interviewees lines up, including comedy acts and celebs.

First up, she will chat with comedian husband and wife duo Rhod Gilbert and Sian Harries, discussing their podcast and life during the lockdown.

Businesswomen Sophie and Hannah Pycroft will also make an appearance, as will Dancing On Ice's latest recruit – Denise Van Outen.

Plugging Alex's new show, editor of BBC Radio Wales Colin Paterson said: "Alex is one of the country's best-loved presenters.

"Her style and warmth makes her perfect for radio and I'm over the moon that she's joining the line-up here at BBC Radio Wales."

We can't wait to tune in!

The Welsh starlet has fronted The One Show since 2010, becoming a beloved fixture of the chat show along with her co-stars Gethin Jones and Alex Scott.

Despite her star status, Alex confessed she occasionally battles with "imposter syndrome," and fears one day getting axed from the BBC evening show.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping earlier this year, she said: "I still have a major case of imposter syndrome. I'm constantly waiting for someone to go ‘Er, actually hang on a minute, we've made a terrible mistake here.' I'm convinced I'm going to get that call."
