AMC’s hit zombie drama just has two episodes left before the mainline drama is replaced by a new crop of spin-offs after over a decade on screens. After The Walking Dead fans were given early access to the penultimate episode on the network’s streaming service, a worrying moment for Judith (played by Cailey Fleming) could be hinting towards the return of her father Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) in the series finale.

Classic Walking Dead character Rick could reappear in the final episode following a shocking injury to his daughter, Judith.

In episode 22, Faith, Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) planned a revolt against the Commonwealth and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) was put on trial.

Some fans have now had the chance to catch the next episode, Family, a week early, which saw the survivors face one of the biggest swarms of the undead yet.

Unfortunately, the two ongoing battles could have a tragic outcome for Judith after she was shot by Commonwealth governor Pamela (Laila Robins).

Viewers were understandably horrified by Judith’s injury, which could prove fatal before season 11 has come to an end.

However, her sad fate could also lead to a long-awaited reunion with her father, Rick, who hasn’t been seen since the ninth season of The Walking Dead.

Although Judith has been tied to surrogate father Daryl in the latest seasons, her cry of ‘Daddy’ in the episode seems to be building up to an appearance from Rick.

Once the episode had been released, many fans took to social media pleading for one last scene between the father and daughter before the apocalyptic drama comes to an end.

@darkwitcx tweeted: “When Judith, Daryl (Norman Reedus), and the whole team family finally reunite with Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira)… that’s the moment I will know peace.”

@rheeslvr predicted: “I’m totally on the Rick Grimes is gonna be in the finale theory now.

“Judith said ‘Daddy’ and it didn’t cut to Daryl, it cut to the crowd. I’m so excited.”

@Petty_AnnDavis tweeted: “I need clarity on what happened to Rick Grimes before this final season of The Walking Dead ends.”

While @FitzOnTheFritz_ complained: “Still no sign of Rick. This last season I swear. Know your audience.”

Over on Reddit, user Jebus_ insisted: “[Judith saying ‘Daddy’], along with Judith talking about her family so much has convinced me that Rick will 100% appear in the finale.”

To which Renegade__OW replied: “Rick has to appear in the finale. The only problem is how he appears.

“He either turns up and this takes place after the miniseries for him and Michonne, or he is heard on a radio etc with a small clip of him at the end promising to find Judith.”

Thankfully, fans don’t need to be too concerned as both Rick and Michonne are officially confirmed to be returning in their own spin-off.

This offshoot will also be joined by Daryl’s own series, as well as the return of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) in Dead City.

However, it’s still anyone’s guess if they’ll both make one last appearance in the mainline show to help save Judith and the rest of the survivors from certain doom.

The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC in the USA and the following Monday on Disney+ in the UK.
