'The Young and the Restless': Fans Really Want Nina Webster Back, But Would Tricia Cast Return for Good?
The Young and the Restless fans are overjoyed because two longtime cast member and fan favorites, Jill Abbott and Nina Webster, are back on the show. Jill is on the show occasionally, but is it possible that Nina could ever be back on a recurring basis as well?

Jess Walton, who plays Jill Abbott, and Tricia Cast, who plays Nina Webster, are back on The Young and the Restless next week for the show’s 12,000th episode. While Walton is a recurring cast member who pops in from time to time, Cast is not a regular cast member. The actors first appeared last week in a scene in which they both appeared on a tablet to Chance Chancellor, who is Jill’s grandson and Nina’s son. The two are back on the show for the holidays and for Chance and Abby Newman’s wedding.
They will physically be in the scene for episodes next week. The show will be celebrating the 12,000th episode all next week. On social media, fans are raving about their return and are leaving excited messages on the show’s official Instagram page.
One fan wrote, “Can’t wait to see this YAY Jess and Tricia are BACK as Jill and Nina!!!!! Congratulations Y&R to 12,000 episodes.”
“So happy to see Nina back. Hope you guys keep her there,” said another viewer.
Someone else added, “Seeing Nina and Jill makes me so happy! Love, love, love those two!”
The reason why Nina Webster may never be back for good
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest preceding her return stint to the show, Cast talked to the magazine about coming back to the show. Living in Tennessee, Cast is mostly removed from the industry now only appears on The Young and the Restless. This is why despite how much fans want to see her back, the character and Cast are not likely to come back to the show full-time…ever.
The show reached out to her to appear for a stint that would include the 12,000th episode. “It wasn’t like the show called my people and then my people called me because I don’t have people,” she joked. “The casting office called me directly and asked if I could come back. I immediately said yes and, ‘That would be fantastic. I’m in!’ I’m looking forward to anything they have for me. I couldn’t be any more excited about it. I think it’s great, and I can’t believe it’ll be 12,000 shows! I think they were in the 3,000s when I was there in the mid-’80s. It’s just unbelievable and I’m so tickled.”
She was asked to keep the return a secret and she only told her friend Lauralee Bell, who plays Christine on the soap.
The actor explained, “I just picked up where I last left off because everything is where it’s supposed to be, you know what I mean? The building is familiar, the same camera and boom guys are here, all my friends are still in the makeup and hair room, so it’s a really lovely thing. It feels like I’m back in the fold.”
She’ll come back for stints however long the show wants her
Cast’s husband, singer Bart McGrath passed away last year. She calls her life “quiet but satisfying,”
“I quilt, grow tomatoes and putter around the house. My husband’s kids are grown and are such wonderful, smart and good people,” she said. “They have their own kids and they’re very precious — who wouldn’t love being a grandma to them?”
And although she enjoys the quiet life, the actress is always willing to return to her old stomping grounds from time to time.
“I don’t mind commuting, that’s never been a problem for me and I’m a good traveler,” she added. “I’m a carry-on girl, so I don’t check in baggage and just go on through. I would adore doing this some more. I’m having so much fun and want it to continue.”
So while Cast may not be a series regular ever again on the show, it looks like she’ll pop up in town whenever and however needed. Hopefully, the show can continue to include her on the canvas.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
