This is how much money Whoopi Goldberg is actually worth

Whoopi Goldberg has had a long and successful career as an actor. She starred in Sister ActGhost, and The Color Purple — which helped her become a rare EGOT winner — before stepping over into the realm of daytime talk shows as a host of The View. But as famous as she is, you might not know everything about the star, like the untold truth and tragic story behind her life. You might also be surprised to find out how much money she has.

Goldberg is sitting on a fortune of $45 Million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. With a steady gig these days on The View, she reportedly makes $5 million per year.

However, money isn’t the only thing that Goldberg has. While attending Refinery29‘s Money Diaries event in September 2018, the star admitted that despite all her fame and fortune, she also happens to have credit card debt. A source told Page Six, “Whoopi … said she used to think that fame meant people handing her bags of money.” That was apparently not the case and that unexpected — and unfortunate — reality is perhaps why she now feels like it’s so important to be savvier when it comes to money.

Whoopi Goldberg explains how her money 'disappeared'

Whoopi Goldberg has learned a thing or two about making — and losing — money. That’s why she believes it’s so important to be smart about your finances. “Know what your money is doing. There was a time when I didn’t pay attention and my money disappeared,” Goldberg told Black Enterprise in 2016. “You can’t just assume that a company or financial adviser has your best interests at heart. If you’re not looking at something, then you don’t know what’s going on. It’s also important to understand how things like taxes are impacting your money.”

“If you make $1 million, that doesn’t mean that you’re taking $1 million home,” she explained. “Then, for me, there’s agents, FICA, MICA, you name it. I had to learn to figure all of that into the equation.” According to Goldberg, “Financial literacy is a big problem: We (black folks), didn’t get to accumulate wealth and are playing catch-up. We’ve got to learn how the stuff works. Why you need a will in order to protect your family. What is interest? How does it affect my taxes? You’ve really got to know what’s going on and be patient with yourself.”

Great advice for everyone. Thanks, Whoopi.
