Tipping Point fans stunned after player achieves amazing show first – with Ben Shephard leading the praise

TIPPING Point fans were left open-mouthed after a player won the show by achieving the first ever double-double drop on the show.

Contestant Maria was overcome with emotion on Tuesday's episode of the ITV game show after she secured the jackpot of £10,000 in style.

After the show aired, host Ben Shephard took to Twitter to congratulate her and explained exactly why her win was so special.

In the penultimate round of the show, Maria went head-to-head with fellow contestant Martin.

However, as she dropped her final counter of the round into the machine, Martin had an enormous lead.

But, in unprecedented circumstances, her counter dropped down and managed to push nine counters – including two double points tokens – across the tipping point.

Stunned by the contestant’s achievement, Ben revealed it was a first for Tipping Point.

“So Maria, goodness me,” Ben laughed, before revealing: “This has never happened before.

“We’ve never had two doubles go in one drop – it’s created a bit of Tipping Point history.

“Now, the question is, have you done enough to overhaul what is a 29 counter lead?"

After counting up the points, Ben revealed Maria had beaten her opponent: “You are today’s winner with an extraordinary score of £2,650!”

In the final round, Maria chose to gamble the cash she’d earned throughout the show in a bid to win the ultimate jackpot.

Thankfully, she made the right decision as she successfully managed to win the top prize fund of £10,000.

After securing the historic win, Maria immediately burst into tears, saying: “I’m so happy.”

As she apologised for crying, Ben replied: “Don’t be sorry, I’m thrilled for you.
