Fans have been eagerly waiting for an update on Vera after Brenda Blethyn and the cast were spotted filming in Newcastle and Northumberland for series 12. However, while ITV hasn’t confirmed when the latest series will air, leading lady Brenda has given fans an insight into the drama.

Taking to Twitter to ask Brenda about the upcoming series, fan Danielle asked: “Is there going to be another season of Vera? I need to know .”

The DCI Stanhope star was quick to reply and confirmed they had “wrapped up” on episode 50.

The actress explained: “Yes Danielle. Series 12. Wrapped on episode 50 of VERA last week.”

Brenda’s followers also shared their excitement over the news, with many sharing their thoughts on the update.

“Can’t wait,” Jen Derek replied as Christina Smart added: “Squeeeeeeeeeeeal!” (sic)

Val Blackshaw added: “Great news, but I wonder how long before we here in Australia get to see them?”

It is unclear when the episodes for series 12 will be shown, but it is expected to air in the New Year.

While fans eagerly wait to watch how the new episodes will play out, they are still hoping to view the final instalments of series 11.

The first two episodes aired last year, with the second two following in January 2022.

However, ITV is yet to show the remaining episodes of series 11.

In an interview, ITV bosses discussed when filming for the upcoming series will come to an end.

A spokesperson for ITV told The Northern Echo the cast and crew are expected to wrap up filming for series 12 in Autumn.

Despite having to wait for the new series, Brenda and the cast often share pictures and snippets from behind the scenes.

Last month, Brenda’s sidekick Kenny Doughty, who plays Aiden Healy gave his followers an insight into series 12.

He penned: “Just finished filming for the day & want to wish you all a Happy Bank Holiday! Have fun & keep safe! X”.

In another post, the Aiden Healy star shared a photo of a special visitor on set.

Sharing a photo of himself lying on the floor of his trailer with a puppy, Kenny wrote: “Had a visitor today in my trailer. I may have to steal her!”

Brenda has played DCI Vera Stanhope since the ITV series began in 2011, and she has become a hit with fans ever since.

Joe Ashworth (played by David Leon) was DCI Stanhope’s original sidekick before he was replaced by Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty) in 2014.

The pair had remained side by side ever since, and viewers love to watch their onscreen relationship blossom.

Vera is available to watch on BritBox and BBC iPlayer.
