Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is well-known for claiming married couples need their own bathrooms to make their relationship work. During her latest talk show appearance on NBC, the Wednesday star elaborated on her experience living with Ant-Man A-Lister Michael Douglas and why it’s important to have their own downtime.

Morticia Addams star Catherine revealed she still has her own “sanctuary” to enjoy time alone away from her husband Michael.

The two Hollywood stars have been married since 2000 having started dating the year before after meeting in France.

Catherine is often quoted as saying: “For marriage to be a success, every woman and every man should have her and his own bathroom. The end.”

While she admitted this won’t be possible for every couple, the actress expanded on her opinions on marriage with some rare insight into her living arrangements with Michael.

She shared: “It doesn’t have to be a bathroom, you know?

“It’s a bit grandiose, ‘Oh we need our own bathrooms’. I’m all for man caves, girl caves.

“Go and potter with the hot rod in the garage. Go and plant a few herbs in the garden.”

Although the couple have been happily married for over 20 years, Catherine revealed it’s still important to find time to focus on herself.

She told Kelly Clarkson: “If you spend any amount of time with anybody, at work, you need a little space, you know?

“For me, the bathroom is more of a sanctuary. It’s not just brushing my teeth and brushing my hair.

“It’s the candles, it’s the bath, it’s the creams, it’s the lotions, you know?

“And I feel much happier when I come out of there without any intrusion.”

“Yes!” Kelly agreed. “You can do whatever you want, I’m 100 percent for this. It’s my sanctuary as well.”

In 2013, it was reported Catherine and Michael had started living separately, though they had taken no legal action towards separation or divorce.

Later the same year, the couple confirmed they had reconciled and moved back into their shared apartment in New York.

They also own a coastal estate in Mallorca and have two children together, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

After stunning audiences on Netflix with her portrayal as Morticia, Catherine will soon be seen in her next project on Disney+.

She’ll be joining newcomer Lisette Alexis and Harvey Keitel in National Treasure: Edge of History, a continuation of the Nicolas Cage-led adventure franchise.

“The National Treasure franchise is part of our subconscious,” she said. “I told my kids this long-winded story about what I was doing next.

“They went, ‘Are you talking about National Treasure?’ I went, ‘Yeah!’ They went, ‘Cool, we love National Treasure!’”

The series starts this week on Disney+, and Netflix fans are still waiting on confirmation for a second season of Wednesday.

Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix. National Treasure continues Wednesdays on Disney+.
