Who is Freda Burgess in Corrie as she returns tonight?
There’s a familiar face back on the cobbles tonight in form of Coronation Street favourite Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs).
Ali has played Freda on and off since 2005.
She returns to Weatherfield tonight to help Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).
Who is Freda Burgess?
Freda is the deaf daughter of Sidney and Edie Burgess. She also happens to be Ernest and Emily Bishop’s niece.
Upon meeting Norris Cole (Malcom Hebden) for the first time, Freda stayed in Weatherfield for a few weeks and began to care for Emily Bishop after she fell down the stairs.
In 2019, when Mary (Pattie Clare) and Tracy (Kate Ford) found the door to No 3 open, they assumed an intruder was inside, but it actually turned out to be Freda.
Freda explained that Norris was staying at a silent retreat and revealed he was planning on selling the house.
After selling the house and The Kabin, Norris and Freda returned to Scotland and got married.
Last year, after spending time at Stillwaters retirement complex, Norris visited the cobbles for VE-Day and revealed his wedding to Freda had been postponed.
Why does Freda visit Weatherfield tonight?
Freda is back in Weatherfield tonight to visit Gemma and Chesney as they remain torn over whether to allow baby Aled to have his implant operation.
Using sign-language, a confident Gemma will communicate with Freda and a BSL teacher called Charlie.
However, a less-confident Chesney will struggle with remembering the correct signs, and will be reminded to talk slower and clearer for lip reading purposes.
Will Freda and Charlie’s visit help Gemma and Chesney come to a decision over the implant operation?
