Monty Don is a much-loved gardening expert who has been entertaining and informing fans on Gardeners’ World for many years. Viewers have enjoyed being lulled by his serene tones and they have found his tips on growing plants and vegetables extremely useful. He will be absent from tonight’s episode and Express.co.uk has the details.
Why is Monty Don not on Gardeners’ World?
Horticulturalist Monty Don has been the lead presenter on the BBC’s Gardener’s World since 2003.
He replaced former presenter Alan Titchmarsh but left the show between 2008 and 2011 due to an illness.
Since his comeback, he has worked on many other gardening projects of his own, including Monty Don’s American Gardens.
For tonight’s episode of Gardeners’ World, presenter Adam Frost will be taking over.
During last week’s instalment, Monty spoke from his Longmeadow garden about his absence.
He said: “That’s it for this week, I’m away next week but Adam will be taking the reins.”
No specific reason has been given as to why the presenter will be missing from the upcoming episode.
However, it is most likely so he can take a well-deserved break and spend time with his family.
On Thursday he tweeted a photo of one of his beloved dogs, Nell, as she celebrated her sixth birthday.
His absence comes after a candid chat he had with a fan on Twitter, who suggested he should present more TV shows.
TMatrix2020 said: “Stumbled upon Big Dreams, Small Spaces on TogetherTV and really enjoyed it.
“Lovely to see @TheMontyDon interact with the public on their projects, you get a different angle of insight to Gardeners World, and get to know Monty as a person better, shame only seems to be 2 series.”
The presenter replied saying: “There were three series but BBC would not commission more.”
In a further Tweet he added: “I have done a great deal of various programmes over the past 32 years and am very happy – and busy – with what I have lined up at the present.”
Gardeners’ World continues to be a huge hit with viewers and hopefully, the host will continue to be a part of the series for many years to come.
During his week off, the episode will follow Tony Buckland as he offers advice on maintaining borders.
Meanwhile, singer Billie Martin opens up about her passion for growing vegetables.
Of course, Adam Frost will be reporting from his own garden, offering plenty of horticultural tips.
Over in North Yorkshire, a couple has developed a colourful garden on a very unique site.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Monty and the show, and they offered plenty of support.
Stuart Rennie said: “I have a dear love for Monty Don and #GardenersWorld and I am not ashamed to admit it. #oldmaneccieda.”
Dr Marcus De Brun added: “I’ve only recently learned that Monty Don is back on Gardener’s World. Welcome back Monty!!
“Back issues to watch since April! No better distraction from the madness.. second only to getting your wellies on!”
Twitter user @elaffleck said: “The fictional world I would most like to inhabit beyond all others is Monty Don’s Instagram.”
Gardeners’ World airs on Fridays on BBC Two at 8.30pm
