The remake of James Gunn and Suda51\u2019s Lollipop Chainsaw is still going ahead but neither of them are involved in the new version.<\/p>\n
2012\u2019s Lollipop Chainsaw was a fine action game, with a fun script by Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn, but it was barely successful at the time and seemed to be quickly forgotten by all involved, which made recent talk of a remake seem very unlikely.<\/p>\n
It is definitely happening though, despite the fact that neither Gunn or director Goichi \u2018Suda51\u2019 Suda are working on it. Although remake developer Dragami Games was founded by former Suda51 cohort Yoshimi Yasuda, who was executive producer on the original.<\/p>\n
The remake has a name now \u2013 Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP \u2013 and a rough release date, but there\u2019s still not been any footage and it remains unclear how much it will change or improve on the original.<\/p>\n
\u2018Although development of RePOP was carried out with the intention of a 2023 release, our commitment to providing the best possible quality experience to our players led us to making the hard decision to extend the development period in order to ensure this,\u2019 said Yasuda on Twitter, as translated by Gematsu.<\/p>\n
\u2018We sincerely apologise to all who had been waiting for the latest instalment in the Lollipop Chainsaw series, and kindly ask for your understanding in this matter.\u2019<\/p>\n
Although it\u2019s not surprising to find that Gunn isn\u2019t involved, considering he\u2019s now in charge of the entire DC Comics cinematic (and video game) universe, he hasn\u2019t seemed to pleased that he was never approached about the remake, and only heard about it second-hand.<\/p>\n
At first it seems surprising that Suda51 isn\u2019t helping out, as it\u2019s one of his most commercially successful games, but his studio Grasshopper Manufacture currently has three unannounced projects in development, once of which is described as an action game on a larger scale than anything he\u2019s worked on before.<\/p>\n
Apart from some concept artwork, one of which involves a man covered in chainsaws and wielding a chainsaw sword, there\u2019s no indication of what any of the games are, but since Grasshopper were bought by Chinese giant Netease Games that explains where he\u2019s suddenly got all the time and money from.<\/p>\n
