In an episode of Gemma and Gorka: Behind The Lens, a visibly pregnant Gemma announced: \u201cMia\u2019s birth was scary.<\/p>\n
“It ended in emergency c-section and postpartum haemorrhage. The staff at this hospital genuinely saved both our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gemma explained because of this experience her pregnancy was \u201cdeemed as high risk,\u201d which was \u201ca shock\u201d.<\/p>\n
Gorka then recalled his take on Mia\u2019s arrival: \u201cWhen Mia was born, we had a bit of a traumatic birth.\u201d<\/p>\n
He detailed the fact that despite being in labour Gemma \u201cwasn\u2019t having any contractions,\u201d while Mia\u2019s heart rate dropped to a low and \u201cquite dangerous\u201d level.<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n He added: \u201cSo I remember they pressed a button and alarms went off, doctors running in, nurses, everywhere. Six minutes was the time cap for delivering Mia.\u201d<\/p>\n What was already a serious condition became even more high-risk for the couple when Gemma was given a blood transfusion form and asked who should be saved; Gemma or the baby.<\/p>\n Gemma continued: \u201cWith both mine and Mia\u2019s life at risk, the decision was made for an emergency Caesarean section.\u201d<\/p>\n Thankfully everything went to plan and Gemma safely delivered their first child but it did have an impact on her birth plan for her second baby.<\/p>\n After Gemma\u2019s waters broke and she went into labour with son Thiago last month, she was \u201cgiven the choice of the artificial hormone to induce labour again or a section,\u201d after her contractions stopped again.<\/p>\n Taking to her Instagram, Gemma revealed: \u201cThis time was SO much more relaxed. It was actually a wonderful experience and it just so happened that the same surgeon who delivered Mia was on shift. So she delivered Thiago as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
