<\/p>\nFormer Countdown star Carol Vorderman has opened up about the occasions when "rude words" emerged during her time on the Channel 4 show. <\/p>\n
The 62-year old maths expert was a constant on the programme between 1982 and 2008, before she quit and was replaced by Rachel Riley. <\/p>\n
Now, Carol has disclosed some of its behind-the-scenes secrets, admitting that contestants would be forced to find an alternative word if they opted to play with one which was dubbed "rude". <\/p>\n

Adjudicators including Susie Dent would then be given time to find another word of the same length to ensure scoring remained fair.<\/p>\n

"Some [rude words] did come up, and we would have to keep a straight face," Carol explained on the Off Menu podcast. "It was all about keeping a straight face.<\/p>\n
"You know, in the early days they would go, 'No, cut, cut, cut', and we would have to do it again. If it was allowed, we would have to re-record it and give [them] a different seven."<\/p>\n
Much to the disappointment of social media users, however, Carol also revealed that one particular word that went viral in a meme online never actually appeared on the show. <\/p>\n

"When something rude came up, that awful one that begins with 'CU' and ends in 'PS' \u2013 that never happened," she said.<\/p>\n
"You see that on a meme quite a lot \u2013 that never happened. No, we\u2019d never have that [filmed for a show]."<\/p>\n
Carol also said the show's stars would often play their own rude version in the bar once filming had wrapped. <\/p>\n

In the same interview the Welsh beauty also recalled the moment she feared her career might be over after she impersonated Cher on Stars In Their Eyes.<\/p>\n
After missing the intro to the singer's track, Shoop Shoop Song, Carol said she felt like she "died for months". <\/p>\n
She added: "Literally, the tears were involuntarily falling down my cheeks.<\/p>\n
"I thought, oh my God, I can\u2019t hear the music\u2026 It went out months later, I couldn\u2019t watch it, I literally felt sick. I thought my career, that\u2019s it, it\u2019s over."<\/p>\n
