Magnum P.I. star and game show legend Shelley Smith dies after heart attack
Model-turned-actress Shelley Smith tragically died on Tuesday her husband, Broadway actor Michael Maguire, confirmed in a tearjerking video on Facebook as he apologised for “not updating everyone sooner”.
He assured fans, friends, and loved ones that the 70-year-old “wasn’t in any pain” and had died peacefully with Michael and their three children Nicky, Miranda, and Nathan by her side.
The 68-year-old, who had been married to Shelley for 18 years, noted that while no plans have been set yet, Shelley will likely be cremated with a small memorial following in California.
Following that, the widower hopes to host an online service for Shelley’s countless fans across the world and the thousands of people she helped with her Egg Donor and Surrogacy programs.
Michael paused as tears filled his eyes before concluding: “I’m devastated, broken and I don’t know how to go on without her.

“She lived every day to the fullest. Please pray for Shelley. My hope is there is some form of God or someplace she’s going to hang out and wait for me. Anyway, thanks for listening.”
In his heartwrenching clip, the Broadway star briefly detailed Shelley’s “incredible life”, as she started her career as a highly sought-after fashion model in the 1970s just after finishing college.
The blonde beauty was featured in a number of top magazines including Vogue, Mademoiselle and even became a cover star in a 1981 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
Outside of her modeling work, Shelley put her quick wit to good use on countless game shows, most notably helping contestants on the $25,000 Pyramid, a credit she was “so proud of” according to her husband.

In 1979, Shelley also made her acting debut in the NBC movie Mirror, Mirror, and garnered her first leading role that same year as Sara James in The Associates.
She went on to add a number of TV movies and series to her resume, including The Stockard Channing Show, Scruples, Magnum P.I., The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote.
Following her astounding success in entertainment, Shelley left Hollywood in 1991 to get her master’s degree in psychology and became a marriage and family therapist, that is until she encountered the struggles of surrogacy and in-vitro fertilization first-hand.
Determined to better the industry, Shelley founded the Egg Donor Program and later extended it with the Surrogacy program, which helped “thousands and thousands of people” and was “beautiful to watch” as her husband recalled.
Michael revealed that Shelley’s drive to help people lasted long past her planned retirement as she sold the fertility company only to start giving online therapy sessions “just a few years ago”.
