Michael J Fox details tsunami of misfortune in Parkinsons disease fight
Michael J.Fox falls on stage in Philadelphia
Michael J Fox has described having a ‘tsunami of misfortune’ as a result of his Parkinson’s disease.
The actor was diagnosed with the degenerative brain disorder in 1991 – with the condition causing stiffness, instability and shakes as it progresses.
As a result of him losing control of his motor functions, Fox found himself having a number of accidents and falls as it brought about a string of medical issues.
This has included breaking one upper arm in one accident, his arm and shoulder in another, as well as smashing his orbital bone and cheek and breaking his hand.
In a new interview with Town and Country, he detailed how he almost lost his hand and detailed: “My hand got infected, and then I almost lost it. It was a tsunami of misfortune.”
Despite the string of setbacks, Fox declared himself a “touch son of a b***h”, with no plans to slow down anytime soon.
“One day, I’ll run out of gas,” he said. “One day, I’ll just say, ‘It’s not going to happen. I’m not going out today.’ If that comes, I’ll allow myself that.
“I’m 62 years old. Certainly, if I were to pass away tomorrow, it would be premature, but it wouldn’t be unheard of. And so, no, I don’t fear that.”
In recent weeks, Fox has been seen attending functions in a wheelchair, and even took a scary tumble on stage during a reunion with his Back To The Future co-stars.

The duo share four children together – Sam, 34, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, 28, and Esmé, 21.
Fox has also used his public position as a force for good – propelling him to open the Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research with Tracy in 2000.
The foundation is now one of the fundamental charities raising money for Parkinson’s research, raising more than $1billion in the 23 years since its formation.
