Most random Christmas film cameos – from Gossip Girl to future US president
How the Grinch Stole Christmas teased in classic trailer
Have you ever had to pause and rewind a Christmas film because you thought you spotted a famous face?
Many actors and reality stars have made appearances in festive films, but we often forget or don’t recognise them.
Also many cameos go unplanned, and have not even been credited.
From a young Gossip Girl star to a future US president in Home Alone, let’s explore some of the most unexpected Christmas film cameos.
Donald Trump made an appearance in Home Alone 2. When Kevin McAllister (Macaulay Culkin) finds himself alone again, he heads to the luxurious Plaza Hotel, captivated by its stunning chandeliers and twinkling lights.
As he wanders the hallways, Kevin asks a passing wealthy man for directions to the lobby.
“Down the hall and to the left,” replies the man, who turns out to be none other than Donald Trump, the owner of the Plaza Hotel at the time.
It’s even suggested that the future US president managed to ‘bully’ his way into Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
According to director Christopher Columbus, Donald Trump bagged a cameo role in Home Alone 2 after he demanded to appear in the film in exchange for use of his glamorous Plaza Hotel.
“Trump said okay. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie’,” Columbus told Insider.

Fans loved seeing the then-tycoon so much that filmmakers decided to keep his scene in the movie.
However, when Trump’s Presidency ended with controversy, many fans called for his scene to be edited out of future screenings.
Meanwhile, diehard Schitt’s Creek lovers might be surprised to learn that Catherine O’Hara, who plays the extravagant and loveable Moira Rose, also played Kevin McCallister’s mum, Kate, in Home Alone.
When love-comedy, The Holiday, came out in 2006, not many knew John Krasinski and Katheryn Hahn.
But fans who watch the festive flick this year might be shocked to see them playing Cameron Diaz’s assistants, Bristol and Ben.
After The Holiday, Krasinski went on to strike gold with The Office and A Quiet Place, which he directed and starred in alongside wife Emily Blunt.
In another surprising twist, double Oscar-winning actor Dustin Hoffman makes an uncredited cameo in the video rental store as Jack Black chats to Kate Winslet about The Graduate’s score – a film Dustin starred in.
Dustin claims this was completely unplanned. He was genuinely going to Blockbuster to rent a film, saw all the lights and commotion, and decided to see what was happening. He knew director Nancy Meyers, who quickly wrote a short scene for him.
We all know Macaulay Culkin, now 41, is the big star of Home Alone. However, not many people know that his younger brother Kieran, four years his junior, also appeared in the film.
Kieran was just seven when he played Fuller, Kevin’s cousin who had a bed-wetting problem, in Home Alone.

He didn’t even know what the film was about until he saw it. “I didn’t even know what the movie was about when we were doing it, so it was a fresh, brand-new movie when I saw it,” he shared on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
Now, Kieran is a big star himself, known for his role as Roman Roy in HBO’s Succession.
Taylor Momsen, known for her role as Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl, had a drastic image change after leaving the show.
She adopted a punk look with fishnet tights and black eyeshadow while leading rock band The Pretty Reckless, drawing comparisons to Courtney Love.
But did you know she was also in The Grinch, starring Jim Carrey? If you look closely, you might recognise Cindy Lou Who. This was Taylor’s first big role, and she was only seven years old, too young to wear the prosthetic noses like the rest of the Who community.
Billy Bob Thornton, Angelina Jolie’s ex, looked completely different from his usual rocker style in Love Actually in 2003.
The Fargo star swapped his usual look for a suit and a clean shave to play the US President opposite Hugh Grant as the UK Prime Minister, David.
He flirts with David’s staff member Natalie, leading to an awkward situation when David walks in on them.
This wasn’t Billy’s only Christmas film – he also played a mean and drunk Father Christmas in the 2003 film Bad Santa.
