Holly Willoughby dives into McDonald's burger after This Morning booed at NTAs

Holly Willoughby grabbed a McDonald’s burger on the way home after this year’s National Television Awards – and has broken her silence after missing out on a huge win.

Attending without her former co-host Phillip Schofield – who quit the ITV programme earlier this year amid rumours they were ‘barely speaking’ before he resigned from the broadcaster in full and admitted his ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger employee – Holly dazzled at the NTAs in a lilac gown.

She joined her fellow This Morning stars Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, however, things turned awkward when the audience booed as the nominees for Best Daytime Show were read out.

Both Holly, 42, and 48-year-old Alison didn’t appear to let the awkward moment faze them and simply smiled and clapped.

This Morning ended up losing out on the best daytime show gong, which went to The Repair Shop.

Jay Blades’ programme broke This Morning’s 13-year winning streak, with Holly and Phil managing to pick up the gong last year despite the backlash over queue-gate.

Despite the loss, Holly took to Instagram later in the evening to congratulate Jay.

She wrote: ‘To this gorgeous man @jaybladesmbe ❤️ and the whole team at the @therepairshoptv … Hugest Congratulations!!!’

Alongside a selfie from the night smiling with Jay, she added: ‘And what a night for the incredible Sarah Lancashire⭐️… @joeldommett thank you for a great night… See you in the morning.’

Holly later shared a snap from her journey home, digging into a late-night McDonald’s, as she wrote: ‘Say (quarter pounder with) CHEESE.’

Alison replied: ‘Holly + Burger = Bliss.’

This Morning’s account then joked: ‘Where’s our one?’

This come’s after Holly made a rare comment about her ‘difficult year’ while on the red carpet.

After Phil’s This Morning exit, people were of course curious how she had coped with the past year.

‘If I am really honest, it has been up and down,’ she admitted.

While speaking to The Sun she added: ‘It has been a difficult year for everybody but what’s lovely is you find that people rally around you and the goodwill is there.

‘People want things to move on. It feels different.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
