Lego Animal Crossing sets have actual minifigures in first official tease

Rumours about a line of Animal Crossing Lego has been proven true, opening up the possibility of Zelda and other Nintendo sets.

Just as there is a rumourmill for video games, so too is there for anything else people get passionate about. And considering how popular Lego is, with both kids and adults, that definitely includes the world’s favourite construction toy.

Lego has been making Super Mario related sets for years now, as well as a giant brick-built NES console, but so far they’ve not made anything from any franchise other than Super Mario (and Luigi’s Mansion).

It hasn’t been clear whether that’s a licensing restriction or because they’re just taking their time and to be honest it’s still not certain, because Nintendo and Lego are two of the least talkative companies in the world. But we do know for a fact that rumours of Animal Crossing sets are true.

The video below shows minifigures of various characters getting excited about a gift balloon, but the fact that they are minifigures, and not brick-built characters, shows a marked difference in approach to the Super Mario line.

The Mario sets also made use of large Bluetooth figures that interacted with the stages you made but there’s no sign of that here. Although no building element other than the balloon is shown, so we’ve yet to find out how they’ll handle buildings and the like.

If your Animal Crossing who’s who is out of date the minifigures are, from left to right, Roise, Bunnie, Marshal, Kapp’n, Fauna, Julian, Isabelle, and Tom Nook.

The rumours didn’t reveal anything about what the sets are, but they did suggest there were five of them, to be released in March next year, and that they’ll range in price from $14.99 to $74.99 (£12 to £62).

That’s on the cheap side for Lego sets, with even the biggest one only having 535 pieces, although of course that information could be wrong.

The inclusion of Tom Nook and Isabelle suggests one of the sets, probably the most expensive one, will be either the Town Hall or Nook’s Cranny. The inclusion of Kapp’n implies one of the others will be his boat and/or harbour.

Beyond that we’ll just have to wait and see the official reveal, but if Nintendo is offering a tease like this now it’s probably only a few days away.

What’s also going to be interesting is if this means the rumours of a Legend Of Zelda set are also true. The suggestion was that it would be a one-off, featuring minifigures and a Deku tree that you could build either in its form from Ocarina Of Time or Breath Of The Wild.

As with games, some Lego rumours are fake but the fact that someone, presumably either Lego or Nintendo, tried to get the leak taken down, even though there wasn’t even a picture, suggests it was probably true.
