New STALKER 2 trailer confirms spring 2024 launch for Ukrainian FPS
GSC Game World has announced another delay for STALKER 2, but it’s relatively short and the new trailer looks great.
Gamers are infamously unsympathetic when it comes to delays but no one in their right mind would criticise Ukrainian developer GSC Game World for having to delay S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chornobyl again.
Most of the work on the game is now taking place in the Czech Republic but while there’s still no specific release date the new trailer below does confirm that it’s aiming for a Q1 launch, i.e. between January and March of next year.
The new trailer features some very impressive visuals (and a dog being killed if that’s likely to upset you) and the same mix of first person shooting and survival horror as the last game, which was released way back in 2009.
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is inspired by classic Russian sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic and is set in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, where bands of scavengers brave strange psychic phenomena, and mutated animals, to retrieve valuable artefacts.
Although it is a first person shooter there are also elements of survival, role-playing, and horror games, that mean there’s a lot more to it than any of the trailers suggest.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be a timed exclusive for Xbox Series X/S and PC and will be on Game Pass from day one. However, court documents from the recent Epic Games vs. Apple lawsuit suggest that the exclusivity will last only three months.
After that, it can presumably be released on PlayStation 5, although whether GSC Game World has started work on a PlayStation version yet is unknown. If they have, then theoretically it could be out before the end of next summer.
