Piers Morgan has not held back when taking aim at those who shaded him at the National Television Awards.
The presenter, 58, was nominated in the TV interviews category for Piers Morgan Uncensored on Talk TV.
However, he found himself at the centre of an intense response from the audience when first being announced, with people hissing and booing him as host Joel Dommett singled him out.
Introducing the famous faces at London’s O2 arena at the start of the show, Joel, 38, said: ‘Piers Morgan is here!’
Morgan was then greeted with loud boos from the crowd.
The host then interjected to add: ‘Hey, everyone, say what you like about Piers Morgan…’
Trailing off, he them jumped to introduce Louis Theroux without another word on Morgan, clearly leaving the former GMB presenter unimpressed.
After failing to win his category, Morgan shared his thoughts on social media once the event wound up, and he didn’t miss his chance to try and take Joel, and the audience, down a peg.
‘Got the Tube in searing heat… got mocked by a host I’ve never heard of… got booed by an audience of shrieking banshees… got beaten by Graham bloody Norton… and now getting the first limo I can find to get the hell outta here. Thanks for a great night NTA’S,’ he wrote.
Graham won the TV interviews category for his eponymous BBC One chat show.
Speaking before the event, Morgan did not seem hopeful about his chances of winning.
‘They’d all rather shoot themselves then give me an award but, but if it’s just on interviews, hard to say that anyone else has had bigger ones that we’ve had in the last year,’ he said.
Speaking about how he might fair in his category, he added: ‘I don’t have any competition.’
Earlier in the night, Morgan shocked many by deciding to take the London Underground to the event rather than a taxi.
‘My first time on the tube for 30+ years. Hasn’t got any cooler has it,’ he shared alongside a photo in a packed carriage.
Beneath his snap, one person exclaimed: ‘What!’ while someone else quipped, ‘First time in 30 years?!!’
Another added: ‘A true man of the people.’
However, his son Spencer poked fun and said it was ‘like seeing a polar bear in the desert’.
The National Television Awards is streaming on ITVX.
