British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair have banned a specific kind of bag

Attention air travellers – there’s a new rule to keep in mind.

The airlines British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair have all banned a type of suitcase, so travellers beware because some have already had their flight plans disrupted because they didn’t know about the new restrictions.

Some kinds of ‘smart bags’, or luggage with built-in electronics equipping them to do things like charge devices, be a Wi-Fi hotspot, and connect to Bluetooth, have been banned from these companies’ planes.

The rules vary from airline to airline – for instance, BA will not allow any smart bag in either the hold or the cabin if you cannot take the lithium power pack/battery out of it.

If you’re planning to carry your smart bag in the cabin, you must be able to easily remove the power source, but it can remain in the bag while you’re in the air.

If you’re planning to put your smart bag in the hold while you’re in the air, the bag’s power source will need to be removed and carried with you into the cabin.

On Ryanair, you’ll have to take the battery pack out and keep it out while you’re in the air whether you check the luggage or carry it on with you in the cabin.

If you can’t take the battery out, you can’t take the bag with you.

As for easyJet, you’ll also, you guessed it, need to have the kind of smart bag that allows you to disconnect and remove the battery.

If you can’t take the battery out, you won’t be allowed to fly with the bag.

If you want to check the bag into the hold, you’ll have to remove the power source and carry it into the cabin with you separately.

As for taking a smart bag as a carry-on, you’ll need to remove the battery pack, but, as long as it’s disconnected, you’ll be able to store it within said smart bag.
