Fuming diners fined £41 for bad parenting – but some think its good idea

A restaurant divided opinion by charging more for “bad parenting”.

On the menu, bosses made it clear there’d be a “surcharge” for “adults unable to parent”. It also threatened to remove people who were rude to their servers.

The rules added: “Be respectful to staff, property and self. No respect, no service. No store food permitted in dining area.”

As well as this, punters were charged extra for parties over six, splitting the bill and ordering from the birthday menu. Unsurprisingly, these punishments haven't gone down well with customers.

In online reviews, diners have complained about being charged $50 (around £41) because of their unruly children. They claimed to be "disappointed with the experience", while another parent said "go eat somewhere else".

A picture of the menu was posted onto Reddit, where it garnered more than 12,600 upvotes. But while some thought it was a genius idea to discourage naughty kids, others thought the rules were too harsh.

One responder wrote: “It amazes me how many parents don't give a s*** about their kids acting like a***holes in a restaurant. We got up and left many times and ate out of take out containers in the parking lot rather than subject others around us to screaming kids when they were really young.

And a second commented: “I do think having a s*** parent surcharge is a good idea – perhaps more establishments should do this.”

But others disagreed. One Redditor said: “Being a Karen goes both ways, and this restaurant is giving me Karen vibes. Passive aggressive menu, lack of consistent formatting or capitalising, complicated pricing, etc.”

Another wrote: “Extra charge for not using cash? 20% for separate checks and using the birthday menu? Yeah f*** this place.”

And a third added: “Gotta read an essay just to figure out how much you will be charged. Places like this can f*** right off.”
