Prince Philip could be enjoying a celestial chuckle as royal historians fume over King Charles’s decision to allow a non-historian, his trusted aide Paul Whybrew, to sift through the late Queen’s private papers before they are transferred to Windsor’s Royal Archives.
Philip ensured that no one could meddle with his legacy by forensically sorting his own papers.
In his final two years he had boxes of documents delivered to Wood Farm Cottage on the Sandringham Estate.
He’s not the first royal to control the narrative of his life.

When William Shawcross was commissioned to write the Queen Mother’s official story, the Palace said he ‘will be given full access to her personal papers’.
A source says that no doubt he thought he was, but he wasn’t.
