Strictlys Claudia Winklemans surprising link to the royal family

Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman is one of the UK's most-loved presenters, constantly on TV on shows as varied as The Traitors, Britain's Best Home Cook and The Great British Sewing Bee.

The 52-year-old has won over millions of fans over the years thanks to her dry sense of humour and has become known for her iconic look, consisting of a heavy full fringe and dark eyeliner.

She isn't the only famous Winkleman however, with her younger half-sister Sophie, 43, being a successful actress, who is also married to a member of the Royal Family. Claudia and Sophie share the same father, publisher Barry Winkleman.

Actress Sophie made a name for herself in her roles as Big Suze in Peep Show, Zoey in Two and a Half Men and as the elder version of Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

She's also starred in Strike as Kinvara Chiswell and appeared in Endeavour, Trust and Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul.

The successful actress studied at Cambridge University and later met Prince and Princess Michael of Kent's son, Lord Frederick Windsor. The pair married on September 12 at Hampton Court Palace in front of all the senior royals.

After their wedding, Sophie and Frederick moved to the US so that Sophie could further pursue her acting career. While living in California, their first daughter, Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina Windsor, was born in 2013.

The couple later moved back to the UK and welcomed their second daughter, Isabella Alexandra May Windsor, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on January 16, 2016.

Sophie, who officially became styled as Lady Frederick Windsor but continues to use her maiden name in her acting career, opened up about being part of the Royal Family in an interview with The Times in 2020.

She said: “I've been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them. The Queen's been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William's been heaven. They'd never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone's looked after me. Oh God, please don't make me sound too gushing.”

Despite her half-sister being a presenter on the BBC One show, Sophie has ruled out competing on Strictly Come Dancing anytime in the future.

“God, no, I can't go near a dancing programme. No, definitely not, I would save the viewers from such a horror!” she previously said.
