Waitrose Christmas Advert 2023: Graham Norton makes surprise appearance at chaotic festive party
The countdown to Christmas is officially on and retailers have wasted no time in launching their Christmas adverts for the 2023 festive season.
Marks & Spencer led the way on 1 November with the release of its very honest festive campaign featuring Hannah Waddingham and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and there's plenty more ads to come.
Waitrose is the latest retailer to launch its Christmas campaign, having launched a fun festive advert on 2 November which is packed full of mouth-watering treats.
Depeche Mode’s iconic party track Just Can’t Get Enough plays in the background as a Christmas house party gets underway, complete with a Waitrose buffet.
The campaign, launched with Waitrose's new partners Saatchi & Saatchi, has 'It’s Time for the Good Stuff' at the core of the creative, along with the Waitrose brand promise of Food to Feel Good About.
The 90-second ad celebrates the 'Good Stuff' – delicious food and drink with loved ones during the festive period. The ad tells the story of a Christmas party which soon descends into chaos as several things go wrong, yet no guests tend to take notice as the food is just so good.
An enormous buffet can be seen, featuring festive treats such as Turkey Crown with Jewelled Stuffing, Crumble Top Mince Pies with Cranberry & Orange and Christmas Smoked Salmon Eclairs.
Several guests arrive far too early, a power cut takes place and two guests even manage to lock themselves in the bathroom.
Graham Norton is the party's special guest, with the iconic Eurovision presenter arriving holding a Golden Bûche de Noël. He can later be seen partying the night away, seemingly unaware a power cut has taken place.
Speaking about starring in Waitrose's ad, the chat show host said: “What a treat it was to be invited to such a fun party and to feature in this joyful Christmas campaign with Waitrose. It was quite a night, and after sampling so many delicious products from the festive range, I’ve got my order in already for the big day – because it’s Christmas, and it’s time for the good stuff. Now, is it too early to cut into another Golden Bûche de Noël?”
Nathan Ansell, Waitrose Customer Director, said: “When it comes to Christmas, delicious food and drink play a central role in creating special moments for all the celebrations. We know that Christmas isn’t always smooth sailing and there is bound to be a hiccup or two along the way.
"However, these inconveniences are always forgotten while you’re busy enjoying delicious food, surrounded by your loved ones and creating magical memories. And let’s face it, at Christmas it really is time for the good stuff, as when the food’s good, everything else is good.”
The advert will air for the first time on TV on the 2 November at 8:15pm during Emmerdale on ITV1.
