We won £1m National Lottery prize – I always knew I would win but it ruined our holiday | The Sun

A LUCKY couple who scooped £1million in a lottery jackpot have revealed how they always knew they would win.

Craig and Karen Mitchell, from Yorkshire, bagged the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker while celebrating their wedding anniversary.

Craig bought the couple’s winning ticket for the draw in September – just days before they went on a holiday to Scotland with family and friends.

But they never imagined they would come back with £1m extra in their pockets.

The loyal lottery punters used to play the The National Lottery each week on the app convinced they would win one day.

Karen said: "I genuinely think I manifested the win. I used to say, ‘When we win the millions’, not if, and now here we are.

"Admittedly, while I was always confident we’d win, it hasn’t made the reality any less exciting!”

The lovebirds were taking a stroll on the beach when they received the life-changing message from The National Lottery.

In disbelief, Craig decided to call the agency – who confirmed they had just become millionaires.

He said: “It was a surreal moment, Karen and I were in the bedroom secretly calling the National Lottery line while everyone else was getting ready to go sightseeing.

"As soon as the win was confirmed Karen started dancing and whooping with joy."

However, Karen admitted the mind-blowing win distracted them from visiting the Scottish landmarks.

She said: “We did try to go sightseeing but I think we were all in such a state of shock that by 3pm we’d given up and headed to the nearest bar for celebratory cocktails.

The mum-of-two is already planning how to splash the cash and said her priority is to share it with her loved-ones.

She said: “First and foremost we will be helping out our boys and close family members.

"Knowing that those dearest to us will also benefit from the win is the icing on the cake to this whole amazing adventure.

“We’ve already paid off the mortgage and wasted no time in replacing that lease car – I’ve already found myself a Mercedes EQC, while Craig is taking his time and building a shortlist of dream cars.

"I think he’s currently stuck between an Audi GT and a BMW M3 – not a bad dilemma to have!”

The Mitchells have no intention of retiring early and want to treat themselves with many more mini-breaks and weekends away.

Craig said: "Knowing that we have that buffer in our finances to enable us to head off for a weekend here and there to escape ‘reality’ will make such a difference for us."
