Big Brother was a scary ordeal but Vanessa Feltz can’t wait for ITV relaunch

Big Brother is back this weekend, with AJ Odudu and Will Best taking on hosting duties. But who can forget some of the most iconic housemates from years past.

And one of those was Celebrity Big Brother and Ultimate Big Brother contestant Vanessa Feltz.

The presenter first appeared in the inaugural series of Celebrity Big Brother, when six celebrities took part for free in aid of Comic Relief in 2001.

She then re-entered the famous house for a second stint in 2010 when she joined an all-star line-up for Ultimate Big Brother.

But Vanessa has opened up about her experience within the Big Brother universe over the years. When talking to Betway, she remarked that it was “much harder” than she had expected it to be.

“I had separation anxiety from my kids straight away. Then they had the door, which was very looming and scary-looking with barbed wire, and frightening dogs,” she explained.

Even though she was taking part for charity, “it all just felt very sort of big and scary, which I hadn’t thought it would,” Vanessa continued.

She also struggled with knowing that she had to quickly make a good impression amongst her fellow contestants, who were essentially strangers.

Vanessa was joined in that very first celebrity series by soap star and performer Claire Sweeney, Boyzone member and actor Keith Duffy, former Blue Peter and GMTV presenter Anthea Turner, professional boxer Chris Eubank and the eventual winner, comedian Jack Dee.

However, when Anthea was nominated, what “was meant to be sort of light-hearted and for charity, felt like a kind of really massive, scary ordeal, and a really horrible thing,” Vanessa revealed.

Despite this, Vanessa remains a “huge fan” of the series and “can’t wait to watch” the new episodes.

Even though she got emotional on a number of occasions and appeared on the show “before anyone knew what reality TV was all about,” she does not regret it even for one minute.

“It’s a great guide to human life and human behaviour,” she concluded.

The new series starts on Sunday night and the main show will be followed by Big Brother: Late & Live, with AJ and Will hosting in front of a studio audience.

For those who were fans of the iconic Big Brother Live Stream, it will air seven nights a week exclusively on ITVX.

The new series of Big Brother will start on Sunday October 8 across ITV1, ITV2 and ITVX.
