Cat Deeley explains why she bought wedding dress before she even met husband Patrick Kielty
Cat Deeley bought her wedding dress before she had even met her husband Patrick Kielty, the TV star once explained.
The 47 year old This Morning host tied the knot with the 52 year old comedian in a private ceremony in Rome in September 2012 after a nine-month whirlwind romance. The pair had actually met in 2002 whilst hosting BBC talent show Fame Academy but sparks didn't fly between them until 10 years later.
Cat has never released photos from her wedding day – but she has previously described what she wore for the occasion. During an episode of Lorraine in 2021, the mother-of-two was discussing Boris Johnson's wife Carrie's rented wedding dress when she admitted she stumbled across her Alexander McQueen gown before even meeting Patrick but could not resist buying it.
She said: "Mine is in the cupboard somewhere but I'd actually already got my dress before… It wasn't because I was feeling lucky, I promise! It was a couture dress from Alexander McQueen – a shift white dress.
"It was so beautiful that I just couldn't not buy it and I hadn't even met Paddy at that stage. I literally put it in my cupboard and I was like I'll wear it to something… I'll wear it to some awards. There you go!"
Cat, who was married to businessman Mark Whelan for five years before divorcing in 2006, has also previously opened up on how she did not have a big role to play in organising her wedding to second husband Patrick. Speaking to Closer magazine, she said: "Patrick went and tried the food and did all that, I never even saw the place where I got married before I got married, that’s how uninvolved I was."
She went on to say her main concern was her friends and family having a good time.
She added: "I get to dress up and have really special occasions all the time, so to me, that was the most exciting thing to happen."
After marrying, Cat and Patrick welcome two sons – Milo, seven, and James, five. The couple has recently returned to the UK after living in the US for 15 years while Cat hosted So You Think You Can Dance.
Recently, Cat has been filling in for Josie Gibson on This Morning while the latter is in Australia for I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!. And earlier this week it was reported that Cat had impressed bosses of the ITV show so much they now want her to stay on permanently.
Insiders at ITV hinted that the producers had been eager to get Cat on the show "for a while" after Holly Willoughby decided to leave last month to spend more time with her family. Rumours are even swirling that Cat's hubby Patrick might be given a shot as a co-host, with the aim of recreating the magic of Richard and Judy, who hosted This Morning from its start in 1988 until 2001.
A source told The Sun : "Cat and Pat has a great ring to it. A married couple hosting This Morning again would be the dream… although to just have Cat would be perfect too."
